Seraphim, everything you have said applies to every razor. One must always watch the pressure (yes, I have a lot of wedges, but I hone all sorts of blades), and one must always set a good bevel (without it, one will never get a good shaving edge). These two things will help with the GD's just as surely as they guide my honing for every blade.
I did no less on the GD's than I do on any other blade, I just found that I was unable to get them to the level that I can vintage blades. Maybe it's me, maybe it's my honing, maybe it's those particular GD's - I'm just sharing what my efforts turned out on those two specifi blades.

Thanked: 735Fair enough.
They are definitely quirky, so I was giving some general advice to the many others out there who are giving it a go as well.
For me. 90% have been good shavers, 8% have been great shavers, and 2% (actually, only one out of between 40-50 of these) would not take an edge no matter what I did.
As I said, if you still have them, give them another go-around on your bevel setter. Or maybe they are indeed duds

Thanked: 137I have a 208 and a 200, but I'm unable to use them until I can afford my coti with which to hone them up. The quality looks good for the price though, and I've heard good things from other members about them. Hoping they'll be as good as I've heard.

Thanked: 74I got my 208 about a week and a half ago. Mine needed a little more attention than yours did though. The grind on mine is a little off, the back of the razor is higher than the front. Just a little, but you can see it. Also the heel of the razor is taller than the toe, this causes the heel to stick out the bottom of the scales. I fixed that by breadknifing. I really didn't like the scales it came in, so those are laying on the bench. It'll probably be the new year before I get the time to complete the project, but I am looking forward to trying this blade out.
