After some of the work done on them making them easily fetch a $100 price tag, I'm not skeptical. I'm thinking of picking up at least a few and just leaving them in a box until I can afford a Coti to get working on them. I would hate to finally get a Coti only to realize that the GDs now cost $30 instead of $15.

I've rotated through my best razors this past week. LeGrelot 1/4 grind, Thiers Carbonsong, Dovo Tortoise, Carl Schleiper, and also a Gold Dollar 208. All are in freshly honed condition. The Gold Dollar gave the best shave.
May not prove anything as the others have done better before, but it impresses the hell out of me. I took this 208 on a road trip to Cedar Key, Florida two weeks ago. I shaved with it several times there at the Faraway Inn and once or twice in restrooms at Big Lagoon State Park and Ochlocknee State Park. Good shaves and no panic attacks about losing it.

I bought a Gold Dollar 208 and a 108 from Jay Reiter (great service!) and both honed very quickly into a wicked sharp edge. Both gave excellent shaves and another stropping brought them both back to their pre-shave sharpness. I'm leaving on Monday for a month-long stay in Florida and both (along with a few other favorites) will be packed for the trip. And, as Matt stated, if they are lost or damaged - no sweat.
Like the old feller said when his two-year-old fell through the hole in the outhouse. "Don't bother to clean him up Maw. It's easier just to raise another one."
