Thread: Modified Gold Dollar

Three Gold Dollars arrived in the mail today from Mr.Parko. a 208,a 100 and a gold monkey. I'll shave test the 208 tomorrow morning. My first impression of the 208 was it looks OK and the steel has a nice ring. Out of the box it wouldn't pass the arm hair test so I gave a pyramid of 20 on a Shapton pro 5k and 8k after setting bevel on a 2k. Passed HHT no problem so I gave it fifty on a thuringian razor hone. I seemed to take a nice edge I'll know after the shave test. Here's some pictures.

Hey Stropper,

Let me know what you think of the Gold Monkey razor. Was considering looking into one of those for myself but can't seem to find any info on it.

Yeah, it's becoming tough to figure out what's happening in this thread. There appear to be 2 group buys going on at the same time. And just a couple of days ago we thought there would be none. In post 132 on page 14 jreiter22 has already placed an order for a group buy that he appears to be facilitating through ePay. I'm guessing that way folks don't have to get touchy about sending him money directly.
And now Ken reappeared and is also willing to do a group buy. Which is also great, as there appears to be enough interest to fulfill both group buys.
Seraphim, with all this interest in the 800 it sure would be great to hear a nice thorough review of it, especially since you are the only one in the posession of one. <wink><wink><nudge><nudge>

Stropper, huge thanks for your pictures, I too am looking forward to that review. Just to clarify Mr.Parko refers to model 777 as the Gold Monkey. Is that correct?

aye Rudy, this tread is getting a bit cluttered and I'm not sure if there's some way to sort it all out.

I'm not 100% on needing an 800 at this point so I'm not gonna throw my name in the hat.

However, if there is 2 group buys going on accident and one of the two buying ends up with a large overstock due to the confusion. PM me, I'd consider picking up one to help curb the losses. I don't really care about the razor as much as I care about supporting those that are attempting to help the community.

Sounds good. We'll hang tight and wait for the two group buyers to post when they are ready, and we'll be sure to do our part. Which is to buy those things and use them. And then of course, report back our impressions.

Well here's some pictures of the 100 and the Gold Monkey. Something I should have shown better is that both these razors are gimped on the top and bottom of the tang. I will try and get a shot of that tomorrow. The 100 has the deep engraving where the Gold Monkey is etched. These have a few minor rough spots but nothing a dremel won't fix. I would think that if we do a group buy we may want to stick to the upper end razors 200 and up, given the price of these. That being said I find nothing wrong with 100 or Gold Monkey so far.

I think I must be confused. From what I saw, there's only one group buy being proposed at the moment (by Ken). I thought the other was a post about a guy buying a case to list razors on eBay. Can we reserve those?
