I think this Mr.Parko has been busy lately - I have one of each on the way to try as well that I bought from him about 2 weeks ago. This thread could turn into it's own category here if this keeps up and if there's resounding approval of them.

The steel Gold Dollar uses is a very high carbon alloy tool steel. Their stainless steel, as with any good razor that is stainless steel, has a considerable carbon content. Otherwise; the blade would not take or hold an edge. This is much the same as Dovo or Henckels razors. If you notice, most INOX razors say "stain resistant" that is due to the carbon content. To me the big thing is not to try and compare the Gold Dollar razors to the Dovo and Henckels. The Gold Dollar razors are the best value in the straight razor world at this time. You're getting what you pay for. I have long promoted the Gold Dollar as a the most economical and yet quality razor on the market. Believe me, I've gone through and reject a bunch of razors in my quest to offer the starter package that I do. I have a lot of customers that use the model 84 as their only razor and have for a long time. I also think that what Seraphim does them is out of this world! His work really shows how great this razor can be. I'm grateful GD doesn't put that much work into the razor or they wouldn't be very economical anymore.

I got my 108 today, took what two weeks..whew..I have some other models coming, they look all alike.
It wasn't super sharp, but did scrape hair off my arm right out of the mailing envelope. I'm a noob with honing...so here's my practice razor..
    Wish me luck.

    Default 108

Arron just keep the pressure light that 108 should come right up.

Yes, indeed, Mr. Parko has been busy. I, too, ordered one of each. He's got a real fan club going. Let's just hope all the razors measure up to our expectations!

I need to work on my honing, and after reading this thread it seems like I can't go wrong with one of these to practice on. Is there a model that people are favoring more than the others? Are the stainless models harder to hone, or is it about the same?

    Default Gold Dollar Shipping Confirmation

I received confirmation this morning that the razors were shipped on the 7th.

I will start a new thread with pictures and pricing when they arrive. There are eight names so far on the PM list. I will PM the list in order and offer the choice of what is left no limit as long as stock lasts. The remainder will go on eBay.

I have shaved with my Gold Dollar 66 a few times now. The blade was closing very close to the scales on one side, so I used a hair dryer to heat up the scales while held in alignment with some match-stick wedges. Then I doused it in cold water to fix the alignment. That worked great. The scales were a little loose so I peened the pins. The pins seemed unusually hard and I had to use more force than usual, but it's nice and tight now.

I honed it with Shaptons from 2k through 16k. Then I made a dozen laps on 1-micron film. Then I stropped on hard felt with 0.5-micron diamond. Then I stropped on ChromeOx loaded linen. Then 50 on linen and 50 on leather. It passes the HHT with ease. Shaves have been very nice. Right up there with my other razors.

If this thread goes to page 25, I might have to start seriously considering getting a 208...

I saw them a little while back and thought, hmm, I like this, it's tacky.

    Yeah... Still liking it...

I'm putting in a worthless post to try to help get this thread to page 25. I'm always here to help feed someone's RAD. (Or is this worthless post going to far?)
