I think it aesthetic mostly. My narrower blades are shorter and my wider ones are longer. And if you take a pick of a 5/8s and a 7/8s in very similar styles and enlarge one you could probably still pick em apart but you'd have to be experienced and noticeable. I dunno. I think that is what it is anyway. Same reason pc/tv screens are certain ratios- for aesthetic- golden ratio and natural numbers and all that hullabaloo.
+1 Glen I also prefer smaller blades- though that one just looks... different. As I said- golden rule number thing applies I think.
Edit: I know it is not THE golden ratio (phi= 1+sqrt(5)/2) but it is something along those lines.

You got a good shaver. Bob Keyes is very reputable and I have bought 2 shave ready razors from him. I read the description of the one you bought (was watching it), and it was 100% accurate. Good buy!

Thanked: 13247I'm sorry here but I absolutely positively disagree on the "Good Buy" here
how is $61 (shipped) a good buy???
Why would any of you tell a Newb that this is a good buy???
You can BUY a real GE for that or less right now easily...
This is a cut down blade, in mis-matched, over-sized scales, I wouldn't even donate that razor to a Newb for free.. I am sorry but statements like that lead to buys like he did...
Get honest here gents... end of rant
In fact BGA ask for a refund on that one, PM me yer address, and I will send you a whole razor for free...

Thanked: 10From Bob Keyes
Dear Brandon,
As Glen mis-stated,,,,,the scales have been shortened and they do fit the blade. Also, while it doesn't compare in value to a full sized Goldedge with Goldedge factory scales, it does have some value in that the blade is dubl duck and therefore has more value than any shortened razor, of lesser reputation and there are a few of them around. Kinda like the dubl duck Dwarf and the Torrey little Gem, but a little shorter. In that respect it does have a purpose and value.
However, if this is your first razor, it isn't a good razor for you. If you had asked me thru the auction "Ask The Seller A Question" option, I would have steered you away from it. At the start of this post my thinking was to offer you a refund, but in thinking about it I am sure the best thing is to just give you a refund and this will work especially well since I haven't mailed it to you yet and wouldn't have until tuesday, (monday is a postal holiday) so I will send you a copy of this post, off post, and hope to hear from you. It sounds like you are having buyer's remorse and that is due to your inexperience. That comes with great acceptance and understanding on my part because we have all been there. In the meantime I will issue you a refund for the full amount you paid and hope to hear from you with a confirmation of this. You may e-mail me at [email protected] or you may call me anytime at 615-826-0174.
While I am a member here, I don't post very often, but I do get feedback of all the very nice things that are said about my razors, the quaity of them and the nice remarks about my honesty and character. The beginning of these threads is an example of those remarks and I feel humbled with much gratitude for them and the people concerned.
I did feel the need to respond here, as well as directly to you, in view of Glen's post in relation to this particular subject, and others he has posted regrading myself and my restorations.
Hope to hear from you,
Sincerely, Bob Keyes

Thanked: 13247Thank you for posting Bob but your pics portray a huge gap between Toe and Wedge...
Therefore in my eyes they are the wrong size... but then again I am a perfectionist
PS: "I did feel the need to respond here, as well as directly to you, in view of Glen's post in relation to this particular subject, and others he has posted regrading myself and my restorations."
This statement is uncalled for as your restorations don't ever appear on the forum you only sell on e-bay, maybe if you contributed to the forum and helped promote Straight Razor shaving in general I could make comments about your restorations... probably even good ones !!!Last edited by gssixgun; 01-16-2010 at 08:00 PM.

Thanked: 6Shorter Razor
Like you, I'm basically brand new to this. Only a month and a half of shaving with a straight. I am interested in what you have to say about this after you use it.
I have been wondering if anyone produced blades that are only 1 1/2 inches long or so. I have trouble with the mustache area with my DOVO due to it's length and thought a shorter blade would be easier to manipulate in the tight areas. I'm afraid while I'm watching my cutting in the mirror that I'm going to slice my nose with the far end of the razor or when I hold the opposite way, my cheek.
