Thanked: 9Dubl Duck...Did I do the right thing?
So I was playing around on eBay a few second ago looking at straight razors (still hadn't broken down and bought one) when I came across:
dubl duck GOLDEDGE STRAIGHT RAZOR & COMES SHAVE READY - eBay (item 160393247892 end time Jan-15-10 17:00:09 PST)
I don't know why but I wanted it. So I bid and won. Anyway, this will be my first razor; is it ok that the blade has been shortened? Was this a good deal? Did I get myself into something I shouldn't have? Please help...I'm a bit queezy.

Altima is a first class seller from what I have heard. I suspect it will be fine. The price certainly was right. I don't think you did badly at all.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Your fine. It's just short. As a matter of fact, I know that seller very well. His name is Bob Keyes. He's a top notch restorer, seller, etc...If your not happy with the blade for whatever reason, He'll take it back for sure....I'll tell you what, when you shave with it, you'll be so impressed, you'll keep it....Congratulations...You did good...

hmm, shortened and fairly worn out blade in strange scales... i wouldn't have gone for it myself.
on the plus side it's well cleaned up and should still shave pretty well.

Thanked: 13249Just about 1/2-3/4 of an inch as he stated the blade was 2 inches...
Also the scales were not shortened to fit the blade...
But we try and tell all you new guys over and over not to shop on E-bay until you have been doing this awhile... The blade no doubt will be a good shaver it is after all a DD, but the razor has no true colector value at all ...
Sorry but you did askLast edited by gssixgun; 01-16-2010 at 01:37 AM.

Thanked: 9I appreciate your honesty. Thank you. Well, live and learn I guess. I'm glad at least you all seem to agree that it will be a good shaver.

Thanked: 9Just curious...what are the disadvantages of a shorter blade? Less coverage so longer shave? Any increase in danger, etc...?
