That might well be so, but I had norm67s post #45 in mind, which is why I mentioned the three-crosses razors.

Guys, I dropped an e-mail to Henckels and got some information. I asked if this the one man logo is used on any their current production razors, and if they know anything about a 100 78 model. I am taking the liberty of posting the answer that was given to me since I don't beleive this goes against forum rules, but if it's the case please let me know and I'll remove the information. Here is the answer that I got:

After searching in our archives, I can give you the following information:

    • In a catalog from 1966 I found a logo bar, in which even the ILLING (one man) was shown. (see pdf enclosed)
    • I know, that ZWILLING has used also the DRILLING (3 men)as a logo.
    • A handwritten note, which I found, suggests that the ILLING (a man) was used from 1966 as a logo. But I could not find any information about why and how long the logos have been used.

Hope, that I could answer your question.

I got that same email, Glenn. So there you go. It looks like the single man IS a legitimate mark from at least the 60s. No reason to doubt the authenticity of the razor.

Has anyway yet to shave with one of the so-called fakes? I'm sure that would help determine a lot.

I'm not sure if this is relavent or not but i happened to be in a Bed Bath and Beyond today looking at their kitchen knives and noticed the name Henckels so naturally i was had to go in for a closer look. I too was thrown off by the single man logo. Then i saw that it said "international" and upon even further inspection noticed what i consider to be the big difference: Henckels International blades are made of stainless steel where as Henckels (with the twins logo) is made of inox no stain. I could be wrong but i'm pretty sure they are not the same thing. So i'd say the biggest difference in the two would be how easily they take and hold an edge.

Isnt inox just another word for stainless?

I believe you are right, Jan Ivar.

Here's what wikipedia says about it.

I see. I thought perhaps there was some subtle difference in grade of steel. So i wonder why they use the term "No Stain" as opposed to "Stainless"? Marketing?

While stainless, inox and and rostfrei all mean the same there are a lot of steel types to choose from in that category
So probably a different steel type between knife and razor
