Thanked: 2Have you ever faced a situation like this? Hobby gone too far?
Just wondering how much money have you guys invested in all your shaving materials? Basically my wife thinks that this hobby of mine has taken a life of its own! She says that Im looking into the mirror all the time, shaving twice a day, and going overboard with my shaving collection and it has now become an obsession. She says there is no space in the washroom to put anything else because I have hogged up all the space with my strops and hones and what not and has taken up a lot of resources dedicated to this (both financially and socially).
Im not sure if you guys have gone thorough similar experiences and where do you draw the line?

It sounds like the line has been drawn for you...Myself, the wife has given up, and figures if it keeps me occupied, it's worth a little extra expense. The facts that I've got a decent job and no other expensive habits (mostly given up drinking and the like) help.
One question: why are your hones in the washroom?

I would politely ask my wife to kindly move her other things out of the washroom.

12 razors - 150$
5 strops - 65$
5 shave creams - 40$
2 DE razors - 15$
5 Hones - 130$
Aftersahves - 30$
Misc - 50$
I buy everything on the cheap and dont mind waiting a deal to pay less. Ive got a big bathroom and the house is mine. My GF however loves my habit and would rather me by straights than go to clubs or chase women.
When has the hobby gone to far? When it becomes a financial strain or cause personal problems.
If space is an issue move some stuff out of teh bathroom and store it close by.

My ex-wife really hated everything about this "hobby"......... My beautiful Blonde Nurse girlfriend is much more understanding.
Had to explain in this "edit" that Mary, my girlfriend and I live together and I have my own full bathroom/shaveden.Last edited by AntiqueHoosier; 02-07-2011 at 03:33 AM.

Seriously though, you're all good. It's all part of the sport and like the Packers, you're on your way to a Championship!

Thanked: 10My only concern is that you might be getting things you really don't need. Take your time and get a new hone if you have gone as far as you can with your old ones. Don't get ahead of yourself. Two razors, a strop, a brush and basic hones are are good to start with. Take your time and enjoy the ride.

There is no line. For a long time straight razors and wet shaving were the center of attention after family and work. It always seems like there is just one more razor to have. CarrieM makes home made shave cream so I have tubs of it all over the house. Soap and shave cream making stuff is everywhere. Straight razors are in almost every room. My strops stay in my office and hones hones are stored there. Every time we have guests over we need to pack up the soap making stuff and clear off the razor restoration stuff from the kitchen table and island. Haven't had any younger kids over for a while but I don't know where I'd put the razors. All storage places are full to the brim w/ shave ready straights. It only gets worse. Now we're getting into other home made hobbies to replace cigarettes and that stuff is all over too. We live in a house that is very large for the two of us but not big enough for our hobbies. At least we are not bored. LOL
