My wife is very cool with this and my other collectibles, cigars, fountain pens and sorted music geek stuff. Given the multitude of other things you can spend your bread on like liquor, drugs and women, shaving stuff should be not only supported by encouraged.

My wife doesn't worry too much. It's cheaper than collecting classic cars and motorcycles and takes up less space.
To be honest I'm the one that worries about spending too much.
I've spent much of my life in engineering and repair work and was brought believing that an engineer is someone who can do for 50 pence what any fool can do for £5.
So to have several tools (ie razors), that all perform the same basic function, seems to me to be wildly extravagant.

    I agree with this sentiment.

    Gentlemen;
You are all correct. But I really like the Shave Den / Man Cave idea--I'm going to get to work on that one right away-----Oh, hi honey, what? oh, I'm just shooting the breeze with some of the guys about shaving--you know--my hobby--what? No, I'm not buying any more razors--gee wiz.

SWMBO doesn't mind the hobby/obsession. She believes (rightfully so) that as long as it keeps me occupied and out of her hair it's a good thing. I agree. I try to look for the deals, and have had to pass a few things up, because we're still a little tight these days on the cashflow. And she has encouraged me to enjoy my toys that I do have.

However, I did read a thread the other day that SRD has the modular strops coming back in.... Bad news is that SWMBO knows what a mod strop looks like, so it's not like I can slip that one by....like I can with brushes and razors!

Your wife is on to something.

I have a great friend that paints. Her husband built her storage for
her art because there was not enough room to hang it all in the house.
She rotates through her collection, takes one down and puts another up.

Build or find a worthy storage box for the overflow. I have some extra
coat hooks in the far side of the closet for overflow strops and a
gerstner'esque chest for razors and 'stuff'. I keep my hones in
a ventilated plastic tub because of the water. I keep most other 'stuff'
in "zip-loc" bags. I am working on a ventilated box with bicarbonate of soda
pads in the box for razors with celluloid handles.

Wow - good to know that im not the only one. Till date i have spent
    $2 on a 180/320 grit stone,
another $2 for 600 grit stone,
    $9 for a 1000 grit,
    $27 for 6000 grit,
    $2 for 0.5 micron sheet.
About $10 on gold dollar razor
    $2 on shaving cream
    $2 on shaving brush.

It seems that is nothing compared to what you guys have invested. Looks like i got a long way to go!!!!

My wife doesn't much notice or worry about my hobbies. This far i hadn't put much money on my shaving gear, it is actually my wife who's hobbies cost more and take more time. As long as it doesn't get it over the top it is ok with me.
Other stuff i have is vintage hand tools, chisels and wood planes etc, but i do not consider my razors and hand tools as hobbies. It is just that i believe i can do better with these old time hand operated masterpieces than with modern electric buzzing gizmos.

Besides collecting razors and tools is much less troubled than with some other stuff. I have a friend who collects phone booths, and currently he's having 9 of them around his garden. I wouldn't want to have PBAD.

    Wink

    Gone too far?

My ADs went too far miles ago.

I've stopped acquiring for now. I won't even buy new soap. Of course I have enough to last for several generations.

Anybody else putting soap in their will?

And her point isssssss? Ask her how much she spends on makeup? You will settle in and it will mellow with a little time. It is a bit of a shock at first to actually be able to get a great shave, isn't it?

    Take Care,
    Richard
