Thanked: 485I know I'm supposed to be telling you about my paltry collection, not lusting after your blades, but I REALLY like that one in black scales with all the etching; that is REALLY cool, really very cool....anyway....
Burrell Top Flight 'no 1' 5/8 (really thin flexible blade, really spiky spike)
W&B Special 4/8 (feels, just, well, SOLID, it feels SOLID)
Emil Kronenberg 5/8 (feels nice, looks like shit, feels nothing like the Burrell, it's hard to believe they're the same size)
Klas Törnblom Frameback w/ivory scales (not sure what it's like, it's currently travelling into my arms from far, far away)Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

Thanks for posting Mick. This isn't meant as a thump your chest thread but a way to show what we consider brands that we like enough to have more than one of. As a side note it may show what brands were popular in the areas they were purchased from if they were local scores.
In an effort to gain more participation I ask that people that don't have more than one of any brand to post their razors in order of preference. If you have only one and that is enough for you post it and note that you are content having this one razor. I know, I know, preference changes with time. Let's just do a snap shot of your preference at the time of your post.Last edited by Joed; 09-04-2011 at 01:17 PM.

I have fewer than I want.
I have more than I need.
I prefer large W&Bs and other Sheffield makes.
I'm too lazy to empty all the roll-ups and count them.
I'd estimate 40 to 50.
That could be low.
I really don't want to know.
I'm so ashamed.

Sorry if I am misleading anyone with the average price I posted. As this is an average price there are razors both more expensive and some I got for free. I'm gonna guess but I think the most expensive razor I own was ~$350. I recently posted in the show and tell razors I just picked up over the summer. I am still finding razors at and below the average price. None of the summer finds were over $23 and most were less. The best advice I can give in locating good razors for a super price is to avoid ebay, get creative in where, when and how you search for razors and be persistent. Also note that I am not adding fuel costs and time into my cost for razors as we all consider the hunts as family outings. Good luck to everyone in there searches and hope you all have good luck with your finds.

I agree with Joed completely. I'm still collecting today and my average price per razor is probably somewhere between $7 and $10. Two weeks ago I bought a group of 17 razors and paid an average of $8.82. The most I have ever paid for a razor was $35. Once for a 8/8 Robeson and another time for a 9/8 Joseph Elliot. I'm more fortunate than a lot of folks because I live in an area where there are a lot of sources. And I have the time and the desire to scrounge through places that the more finicky might avoid. But, it's all about the hunt. If I drive 50-75 miles and come home emptyhanded, that's OK, because I have enjoyed myself, made a few contacts and will go to bed knowing that there are still more razors out there to find.

Thanked: 2209Well, I don''t have mine in a database and even tho I am just about finished re-oiling mine ( about 75 left to oil) they are not all sorted yet. Sorting will be the next step. But what I can say for sure is that the largest grouping I have is of "Sheffield" wedge type razors. Wade & Butcher, Wostenholm, Frederick Reynolds etc. I have a small suitcase filled with them.
I purchased mine from various sources, Ebay, flea markets, antique stores, estate sales, and razor collections that were for sale. Very few are in excellent condition, most need to spend some time in the workshop.Randolph Tuttle, a SRP Mentor for residents of Minnesota & western Wisconsin
