Scott,
Still inspecting and cleaning. I found that paper towels and WD40 also cut it. I honed a couple also and have the others tagged for honing. I'll finish tomorrow. Fortunately most of my better razors were already RenWaxed. I expect a lot will pick up on this thread and the word will spread. I remember reading warnings about this before, but I kind of blew it off.
Hi Stefan,
I don't know the original source, but it's the SRD brand Camellia Oil.
Regards,

I've used camellia oil for years in my usual 14 razor rotation. Never a problem such as those described.
I suspect purity is the issue. I have always sourced my camellia oil from SRD. Highly recommended. Avoid eBay!

Thanked: 443You can make tea from koala nose oil?
About whether camellia oil works or not, it may be fine for smaller rotations, where you'd wipe it off the blade at least once every 14 days. Bigger rotations, you might wait long enough that it's gone ahead and set up."These aren't the droids you're looking for." "These aren't the droids we're looking for." "He can go about his business." "You can go about your business."

Thanked: 16This is a very interesting and informative thread. I've never used Camellia oil. I live in humid Miami and have never had a problem using mineral oil. In addition to the issued raised by those who have posted above, Camellia oil is also much more expensive than mineral oil.

Same here. I have the same number of razors, give or take, in my rotation and have never had a problem. I also use the Camellia oil from SRD as it is very reasonable. I some times go for days without shaving with a straight because of time constraints, so my razors sit unused for weeks, at times. I've never had a problem with corrosion or oil oxidation.

I think you're OK with a few weeks, but if it extends into months, that's where the problem seems to manifest itself. Short term I think it's viable, but for long term storage I can't recommend it. My oil also came from SRD. Also, you can't check your razors after 2 months or so, find them OK and apply a little more Camilla oil to them without cleaning the first oil off. I did that on a few and the oxidation happened on those few razors at the same time as the ones that were initially treated at the same time, but didn't get any additional treatment. I'm using Renissance Wax now for long term, but I'll use mineral oil if I need short term protection. Also, I wouldn't get Cameilla oil on or in the pivot pin. If it oxidizes there you'll probably have to unpin it to clean it.

I use clipper oil, it's wiped off before using the razor I've never had any problems.
