I can recommend any synthetic motor oil for razors, knives, tools, guns or anything else you want to protect from oxidation and lubricate. Being non petroleum or modified petroleum based it does not create a black grease when used on metal like any petroleum based lubricant does. It's long chain molecules ensures that it stays on metal tenaciously. It is not affected by water, acid, heat, or cold like petroleum products.
I have used it for years on wood working equipment with wonderful results. I also use it on all of my guns. I used Ballistol at first on my razors, but think the synthetic (I use Castrol) oil works better.

Has anyone used Rem oil for straight razors? I use it on my microtech knives.

Rem oil, and as far as I know any gun oil, will work fine.

As a chemist told me, "Like dissolves like".

Meaning, any carbon based oil / lubricant is not good for your razor's.

Mineral oils and lubricants are the way to go - Tuf-Glide and such products.

Remington gun oil will work just fine for your razor as will anyother gun oil. Just wipe it off before the shave.

I have had razors stored for years coated with Camelia Oil from SRD. There have been no problems. apparently some oils are refined enough and some aren't.

Don't know how I missed this thread, but I just found a sticky mess in my 7 day role.Camelia Oil from SRD required Winchester break free to clean two razors without rehoning don't want that gum on my stones.I have mineral oil and break free on hand so I guess that's what'll get used for now.

I had the same to happen to me. I trashed my camellia oil and try to pass the word.

I believe mineral oil has quite a bit of carbon. From wikipedia:

"A mineral oil is any of various colorless, odorless, light mixtures of alkanes in the C15 to C40 range from a non-vegetable (mineral) source, particularly a distillate of petroleum."

For that matter, so does your hand.

I bet you could drop a razor in a bucket of motor oil and leave it there for a hundred years and it wouldn't damage the blade in the slightest.
