[QUOTE=razorguy;1519514]Did you ever think Mastro Livi made straight razors only? Well, this is not the case. Not only he makes straight razors, knives, scissors and countless of cutting tools, he is indeed involved in making surgical instruments as well. I just came back home and I went to Mastro Livi laboratory just to see what was going on there. I found out he was working on the making of a couple of surgical tools a notable Italian surgeon ordered to him: a surgeon lancet and a surgeon scalpel. I do not even need to tell you how scary that lancet edge looked like, absolutely very, very, very sharp. As a matter of fact, Mastro Livi is making surgical tools since the 1960s, not to mention he is one of the very few here in Italy who can hone microtome blades.

He is indeed a man of talent & kindness. He is also a very busy man doing all these things! I'm so intrigued. He is a master cutler like those back in the old days!

Default Mastro Livi "Rasoio Italiano" in Artisan Stainless Damascus Steel

The day I watched and filmed the making of my Mastro Livi CarboInox Snake Razor, Mastro Livi showed me some very special billets he made: artisan stainless steel Damascus, totally made of martensitic stainless steels and therefore suited for hardening and tempering, therefore for making cutting edges. I was so amazed by that I wanted Mastro Livi to talk about these new stainless Damascus billets in my video.
I am sure you remember this video:

The idea of having a straight razor made from this very special steel was so strong that I knew, sooner or later, I would have ordered one made from this stainless Damascus steel Mastro Livi is making since October 2014. It is the result of the experiments Mastro Livi continuously makes in his laboratory since the day he started making cutting tools - sixty years ago - and he never stopped this important part of his job. The result is represented by artisan wonders like CarboInox, this totally martensitic stainless Damascus steel and, of course, not limited to this.
Yesterday I went to Mastro Livi laboratory and I could see the making of my new straight razor, made from artisan stainless Damascus steel made by Mastro Livi and, as I believe this to be a very special achievement, I wanted this razor to reflect the genius of Italian craftsmanship and art, as well as the one of Mastro Livi, something strongly belonging to Italian culture, tradition and genius.
For this reason, I wanted this straight razor to have very special and fancy scales, something representing Italy: that's why we called this razor "Rasoio Italiano", that is "Italian Razor". This razor is truly and genuine Italian, in every single part, from conception to making and honing, expression of the important and fundamental role Mastro Livi - a genuine Italian artisan, artist and craftsman - is playing in the world of straight razor making. Italian pride, expression of the finest straight razors made in Italy.
The blade is made from Mastro Livi stainless Damascus steel, composed by martensitic steels and therefore suitable for tempering and making robust and very sharp cutting edges: you will in fact notice both steels are found in the edge. This is something you can do by using martensitic stainless steels only and no austenitic stainless steels.
As for the scales, they are made from Black African Ebony with inlays celebrating Italy and Italian art. The two Italian flags are made of jade (green), white turquoise (white) and coral (red). The middle plate is made of fossil mammoth ivory, with three dots recalling the Italian flag and hand-signed by Mastro Livi. The bottom of this plate reads "Rasoio Italiano", that is "Italian Razor", of course handwritten by Mastro Livi.
In the tang is also handwritten "Stainless Damascus" and Mastro Livi signature is in the middle of the blade.

Ladies and gentlemen I am absolutely and incredibly happy and proud to show you my "Mastro Livi Rasoio Italiano" in artisan stainless Damascus steel:

I find it awesome that he can also produce beautiful surgical instruments like those above. My wife works for a prominent orthopedic surgeon in the area and I think this would be a great present to him from the staff.

It would certainly be. Mastro Livi can also make surgeon scissors and other surgical instruments.

Thank you! I am glad to read you liked my "Rasoio Italiano". I am sure Mastro Livi could certainly make one to commemorate Texas. And I am sure it will be absolutely beautiful!

You certainly know when you order a Mastro Livi straight razor made of one of his well known artisan made Damascus steels (Carbon Damascus, Stainless Damascus and CarboInox) you also receive a key-chain made from the very same billet used for your straight razor. This is something Mastro Livi started doing few months ago and, of course, as my "Rasoio Italiano" is made from his artisan martensitic stainless damascus steel (that is a stainless damascus steel which can be fully hardened and tempered) I also received a lovely key-chain made from the very same billet. So now I have two Mastro Livi key-chains: I received the first one with my CarboInox Snake Razor and the second one with my "Rasoio Italiano". I am very proud to show you my Mastro Livi "Rasoio Italiano" along with its key-chain: they do certainly look like a good couple, don't they?
