Those don't take many laps to make a difference, I've had the same results doing exactly the same as you

My best edges off of these stones has been the finest stone (Welsh Thuringian) first with plain water (20 laps) then 20 with Smith's honing solution straight off of the Norton 4k/8k

The purple one diluted down to water works really well (it cuts pretty fast) and since you have the 3 hone set I would go to the dark...

I've had really good luck with mine also. My Dragons Tongue with heavy slurry seems to fall in the 3K-4K range and is really nice for mid range honing and with some dilutions it moves into the 6k-8k...

Same here, I've done about 10 and have great luck after a Norton 8k using the LM and also his black Slate stone. I've got to try Lynn's one hone method next, that sounds really interesting!

As soon as I get the flip side lapped, I'm trying this.

The third hone seems finer than the LM, but I haven't done much honing on it to really test it yet.

20-25 laps on slurry and 10-15 on plain water seem to dial out the harshness for me

I've got all three also, they're worth the wait!! All three will improve off of an 8k with the LM and the black hone really improving the edge.

Finally got the very dark green/black 3rd hone of the 3 hone set lapped and tested.
It's very hard and has the same hone feel as the LM. The razor was previously honed on a Norton combo, then C12K,...

I'll hopefully get my MH lapped in a day or so, we should do comparison test on the Black hone.

I'm guessing that my Coticule is one of the 8-10k ones, so I went straight to the LM. Coming from from the Norton, I would have used the DT first.

I just honed an extra hollow on a Coticule, then 50 laps on the LM with water.....................Holy Cow!! This blade got so sharp and smooth it almost scared me!! A personal best.
