Thanked: 1185Nah! in fact it makes me feel a little better that I passed on the one I was stalking. In my experience three kinds of razor sellers. Those who have no idea of the market and are just hoping to move the trinkets out of the way and make a few bucks in the process. I like these too, my C.V. Heljestrand cost me $8 and I got a 1960 Fatboy in great condition for $4 basically these are the guys that if you're lucky enough to locate you can walk away with some tremendous deals, hell, it's almost stealing. The second kind of seller knows the market and will sell you razors for a fair price. You won't get those killer deals from these guys but in general, since they are razor guys, their stuff is a bit better looked after. Group one and group two I'm cool with. Group one generally doesn't know what they have or even if it's restorable. I do. The prices are amazing, I get a restorable razor, life is good. Group two is a bit more expensive but these kind of people will generally not sell unrestorable garbage. In most cases, he's selling you razors that until recently were probably in his own rotation.
Group three is the group I absolutely hate. These are the guys at flea markets, antique stores, etc. who charge top dollar for something that is barely recognizable as once being a serviceable straight razor. You've seen them, the guy with a rusty 1/8" razor with cracked scales that used to be a Wade and Butcher Meat Chopper but after all the rust was removed could scarcely pass as a folding toothpick. He wants $75 for this priceless antique (that no one on the planet could turn into a serviceable straight razor.) Here's another example of group three. The guy with a case full of Pakistani garbage that he wants pristine Dubl Duck prices for. One of these ass clowns actually tried to tell me that Pakistani metal was superior to the German or English metal used in the old straight razors. Naturally, I laughed in his face, told him not to piss down my back and tell me it's raining and walked way. What he had would be great for letter openers or stage props but NEVER as operational straight razors. The older I get, the better I was
