First shave since last Sunday. We've been getting hammered with snow. Several feet on the ground and more on the way. I woke up Tuesday mnorning with a back ache and before I could finish getting ready for work I couldn;t walk. Screwed my back up good. This evening was the first time I could stand w/o flinching so the beard had to go. January is Henckels month in my rotation so lets see how far I can go before being tempted by the rest of the heard.

    Brush: Shavemac 23mm silvertip
Strop: Merit Linen and SRD 3" Bridal
    Shave Cream: CarrieM's Bamboo Teak
    Razor: J.A. Henckels 6/8's
    Cologne: Royall Musk

    Smooth as silk and BBS.

    Location: 36° 10' 25.3416" - 115° 20' 33.198"
    Razor: RC Allman
    Brush: Shavemac D01 - 23/50
    Soap: MWF aka Da Fat
    Pre-shave: Dominica Bay Rum
    Astringent: Thayers Witch Hazel
    AS: Ogallala Bay Rum
    EDC: Sandalwood Elizabeth Arden
    Result: WOW!

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Ok here's what I did.

I found this old early 1900's Robeson published little booklet with info about what razor to buy and some lathering info. It said (if you have a tender skin) to first wet the face with hot water and lather up with your brush. Now rinse off the lather you just applied and apply some good bay-rum. (I used Dominica bay-rum).

When done let it soak for a short while then take your brush and re-lather. Make sure to nicely massage the lather on your face. Even use your fingers if needed. Now continue and finish your regular shaving routine.

I did just that and wow, what an incredible easy, smooth and irritation free shave I had. My skin just felt amazing. This off course combined with a wicked but sharp Bob Allman razor finished on my Japanese Karasu, MWF soap and both Dominica and Ogalla Bay-rum.

I will be trying this routine again next time but with different hardware

Bay rum as a pre-shave? I'll certainly have to try that one.

    Joed,

Ouch...Based on personal experience, I know that must have hurt. I'm glad to hear that you are on the mend though. Hoping that you will achieve a full and speedy recovery.

Thanks - I just arranged it all, pointed and shot, not sure how I managed to get such a good pic. Don't know your friend though - I'm from and at the other end of the country, sorry.

Cool SOTD 01-07-10 thur. p.m. 1st. shave of the year!

This is my first shave of the year. Here in western New York, we've been getting hammered with snow! Shovling, plowing at work; Crazy!
PRE-SHAVE PREP: Hot shower, hot towel, pre-shave oil, lather, hot towel, re-lather, shave.
    PRE-SHAVE OIL: Glycerin.
    S/SOAP: Tabac.
    S/CREAM: TOBS- Mr. Taylor's.
    GLYCERIN: 6- drops= Uber-lather.
    BRUSH: C-M Super Silver Tip.
RAZOR: Magic Shavette, personna blade. WTG, XTG, ATG passes.
POST-SHAVE TREATMENT: Hot water rinse, cold water rinse, astringent, A/S gel, EDC.
    ASTRINGENT: T.N. Dickinson's Witch hazel.
    A/S GEL: TOBS- Mr. Taylor's.
    EDC: TOBS- Mr. Taylor's.
RESULT: Nice! BBS Shave. Magic Shavette performed very well. That little razor saved a lot of time not having to strop. Perfect when I'm in a hurry, but still want a straight shave. It beats a DE, but not my straights!
