Post Week of September 19 SOTD - Friday

Pre-Shave: Hot shower + Stephan's Conditioning Smooth Shave Creme
Music: Claude Debussy, "Clair de lune", third movement of Suite bergamasque
Razor: 15/16" Filarmonica Doble Temple #14, Full Hollow, Spike Point
Strop: SRD Premium IV (60 linen/75 leather)
    Brush: 25mm Vestavia Silvertip Badger
Überlather: CarrieM Bay Rum Shave Creme + Mama Bear's Masculine Musk Shave Soap + Glycerin
Astringent: Thayers Witch Hazel (Lavender, no alcohol)
    Post-Shave: Trumper's Sandalwood Skin Food
    Moisturizer: Trumper's Fragrance-free Moisturizer
AS Balm: Al Raz' Spicy Orange
Result: What a bliss to shave with this Filarmonica...especially with Debussy's "Clair de Lune" filling the morning air; a piano depiction of Paul Verlaine's "Fêtes galantes". At a micro-tad under 8/8", this beauty not only sings like a canary on the strop, but also when it's plowing through 24 hrs of growth with seeming ease and absolute precision. As always, a mix of CarrieM's creme, Mama Bear's soap and a little Glycerin makes up this wonderfully rich, virgin white tapestry upon which this ritualistic choreography unfolds and the blade performs its ultimate dance of death. Trumper's Skin food and moisturizer followed by Al Raz' delightful Spicy Orange AS balm seal the deal for this face...at least until the sun rises again, at which time the day will present itself with a brand new set of challenges.

That razor is awesome. One of the best looking blades I've seen in a long time

Contrats Bill! I did the same thing this week. Although my shave wasn't totally BBS, more of a DFS, I was pleasantly surprised that I pulled it off. Like you said all the thanks go to the great folks here at SRP who are so willing to be of help.

Thanks! It really was a great feeling, and congratulations to you too! I know my edge can get a lot better, so I'm going to probably take it back to the 8k and then experiment with the thuri and the nakayama to decide what edge I like best with this particular blade...

After the first shave I took mine back to the 8K too. It did a better job the next time I shaved with it, but it still needs some work.

    '51 Superspeed w/ Red Personna
    Semogue 830
    Pre de Provence ss
    Thayers Original WH w/ aloe
    Musgo Real a/s balsam
    Acqua di Selva Edt

It's good to be home...with a two day growth I was looking for a great shave so I went with the birth year DE, the '51 Superspeed/Personna combo. The Pre de Provence soap is fantastic and I got what I wished for, a BBS result. Fantastic! Back to the straights tomorrow.

Strop: SRD Premium IV (50 linen/75 leather)
    Brush: 23mm Shavemac Silvertip Badger
Soap: Mitchell's Wool Fat Shave Soap

Result: Great lather, BBS shave...wonderful start to the start of my birthday. The "Bow" delivers the goods...Seriously!! This thing is as sharp and smooth as they come. What did you expect? The blade has been christened by none other than Max himself. I would even go so far as to officially certify this as a lethal weapon - If I were caught with this thing in my luggage at any airport security, I would be labeled a terrorist and deported. I also received my MWF soap yesterday...I do love this soap. It lathered up perfectly and effortlessly. I like its scent better than that of the Cella, but performance wise, they are very close, except with respect to one characteristic - the moisturizing capacity of the MWF outshines the Cella in this regard. But since one data point is not sufficient to make a final judgment call, the experimenting will continue.
