Post Week of October 24 SOTD - Saturday

    Pre-Shave: Hot shower
Razor: 6/8" Thiers-Issard "Eagle", Full Hollow, Spanish Point
    Brush: 25mm Vestavia Silvertip Badger
Strop: Neil Miller Linen (50 laps) + SRD Premium IV Leather (70 laps)
Überlather: Al Raz' Custom Shave Creme + Mitchell's Wool Fat Shave Soap + Glycerin
Astringent: Thayer's Witch hazel (Lavender, no alcohol)
    Moisturizer: Dr. Hauschka's Quince Creme
    Cologne: Penhaligon Endymion
Result: This Eagle certainly knows how to hunt its prey. She has a very keen eye for those pesky little, soft, almost invisible peach fuzz...you know the kind I am talking about; those that no matter what you do, never seem to want to go away. Well...they may run, but they can't hide from the eyes of this master predator. After spotting its target, the Eagle dove for the kill...nothing is immune from the sharp talons of this skilled predator...before I could even realize what was happening during each pass, all the hair was wiped clean...one clean swoop. ALL GONE!! This bird of prey is truly the reincarnation of the "Angel of Death" or Azrael, working ever so harmoniously with Al's creme to bring about a wave of death and destruction, from whose ashes I was witness to the birth and rise of the proverbial Phoenix; a newly rejuvenated and "reincarnated" skin.

    SOTD: Saturday, October 30, 2010
    Pre-Shave: Hot shower
Razor: 6/8" Thiers-Issard Festonné Decorated Back
    Brush: AOS Badger Brush
Lather: Mitchell’s English Wool Fat Shaving Soap + a dab of Prosaro Shaving Cream (hey, I’m experimenting!)
Scuttle: Straight Razor Designs Midnight Black Scuttle
    Cologne: Burberry Touch for Men

A nice shaving experience with the new TI 6/8. I took it slow today and didn’t get any nicks. I did three passes with the razor and my confidence is increasing. Even though I read the wiki, and have read lots of advice here, I’ve typically been shaving ATG on my neck because that’s the way I’ve always done it with the Gillette system. I do WTG on my face and ATG on my neck – it felt more natural that way. I’ve started to gently go WTG on my neck and had good results with that today. The scuttle brought a new experience to the shave as I filled the outer bowl with hot water and then built up a very rich later with it. Who knows “whether I’m doing it right”, but here’s what I did… I soaked the brush in hot water, flung the excess water off, and saturated the end of the brush in the Wool Fat. I put a dab of Prosaro in the scuttle with a teaspoon of water and then built up a rich later, pumped the brush to add air as needed. It was nice to have warm lather all the way throughout the shave. I'm thinking that I may need to adjust the hot water heater in the house to provide slightly warmer water. Hmmm. A weekend project.

(my wife laughs at me because I've got a camera setup on a tripod in the bathroom. I told her it was better the bathroom than the bedroom...!)

    Excellent shot, congrats.
    A tripod is very helpful.
