M new faz razor a Wacker..Shaves almost as good as my DE..Excellent edgea, balance and overall feel. THe Spanish point (or barbers notch) is actually a really friendly edge...I likethe way it can get into those hard to reach areas. The round tips are just a little difficult to get up under the nose, and the spikes cut the crap out of me..Anway, great pics guys. You give me my daily motivation with your pics
By the way, this is an old pic..I need to update to how my new Georgetown scuttle in the pics...Great Scuttle, keeps the lather very warm. The only downside is the opening at the top is a little narrow for my tastes. The other suggestion i would gve to the folks at Georgetown would be to not glaze the bottum of the scuttle, so that it would be easier to build a lather..I am thinking if the bottom were rougher it might be quicker?

Found this razor with broken scales, at an antique shop yesterday. Lucky for me I had a set of scales at home from a grifffen with a chipped blade. Fit perfect and cleaned up easily. Honed it last night after watching "One stone honing" video. All I can say is wow. I've learned so much here in such a short time. Thank you to all, for sharing your knowledge, tips and comments. Have Great Shaves today, gentlemen.Last edited by newb; 02-16-2011 at 01:43 PM.

Thanks guys
Nice setup Tom
Mikael,
Been wondering where you were hiding...Sorry to hear about you being under the weather and the dental issue. Root canals that go bad are not fun. Glad to hear that you seem to be well on your way to recovery.
Congrats on the D01...they are fantastic brushes...The density is unmatched by any other brush. Well done. Good trade.
Very nice gesture and SOTD Bill. That, more than the blade, signifies pure class
Lovely shot Jose
Grant,
Loving the shot, the blade and especially that bottle...it does have character.
Glenn,
Hope things ease up a bit. I know how you must feel.
BTW: aside from the water, I think the loading is important too.
Nice Wacker Wintchase. Congrats on your new scuttle. I believe that I will get my Monster DB scuttle from Julie today...will test drive it soon.
Congrats...sounds like a nice shave
Mark,
Nice shot (and shave). Love the color contrast.
David,
Wonderful find. Congrats...and a great photo
How do you like them Russians?

Thanked: 33Thank you.
Thank you, I would not have known what to look for in a good blade, how to get it so sharp quickly, nor how to start taking better photo's, if it wasn't for all the wonderful information that is shared on SRP. Also, thank you for taking your time to comment on those shaves of the day, I enjoy reading your comments.Last edited by newb; 02-16-2011 at 03:49 PM.

Week of February 13 SOTD - Wednesday
Pre-Shave: Hot shower Brush: 22mm New Forest Silvertip Badger Razor: 13/16" Maher & Grosh "Famous Toledo Blade", 1/4 Hollow, Barber's Notch, Burgundy Linen Micarta (Restored by Max) Strop: 5/10 (Torolf linen/Premium IV leather) Überlather: CarrieM "Dragon's Blood" Shave Creme + Mitchell's Wool Fat Shave Soap + Gycerin Toner: Thayer's Witch Hazel (Rose Petal, no alcohol) Moisturizer: Trumper's Fragrance-free Moisturizer After Shave Splash: Floïd Italian Blue Cologne: Penhaligon's Racquets EdC Results: Today's turn was for the Maher & Grosh to shine, the fourth in the line up of seven Maxterpieces . Max put her in beautiful burgundy linen micarta with a "caramel" color wedge. He also gave her a satin look as she was suffering from some pitting and patina along the surface of the metal (you can still see these imperfections). She now looks fantastic and the shave? EXCEPTIONAL!!!! Another shave that, I am sure, will leave me smiling all day long.

Have an GREAT Wednesday guys.

My pleasure. I love reading all my brothers' posts...it's fun
Enjoy the brush Mikael. Shavemacs are some of the BEST brushes out there. Great backbone with soft(est) tips...no compromise choosing between one or the other.
Regarding antibiotics...Kudos to your dentist not to prescribe it. The reason I say it is because the medical field has been so "loosy goosey" prescribing these things that we all risk running the risk of developing resistant bugs in our system...not all of which are good bugs, but nonetheless are necessary for the well being of the entire colony. The human mouth.
More recent research has shown that bugs live in biofilm state...this is basically a structural housing where bugs live and die (most of it is impervious to antibiotics). A colleague of mine at the Univ of Piitsburgh has published a paper (a year or so ago) showing that the human mouth contains as much as 600-800 different species of identifiable bacterial species (90% of which no one had ever heard of). Problem is most of them are not culturable in a petri dish like they do routinely in clinical settings to see what antibiotics to give you. Now, imagine getting an antibiotic that wipes out a few "good" species of bugs, leaving most other bugs intact, giving them the "carte blanche" to expand and grow. If a few of these happen to be nasty ones, then you will have a problem on your hands.
Prescription of antibiotics should be very limited and only in most dire of cases. Your dentist probably thought that the infection was not too bad (albeit it seems that way to the person having it).
I got to keep this short (gotta run)...There's a lot more behind this as far as research and info I have given here, but biofilm research is a nascent field and a very controversial one at that too...but, more and more evidence points to this being the case.
Another food for thought before bed tonight:
In terms of number of total cells in our bodies, we are 80-90% bugs and 10% human cells. Now, try to digest that. I am still trying to wrap my head around this. I am 9 parts bug and 1 part human...peachy
