This is a recycled photo from another forum last week, but I pretty much shave with the same stuff over and over again, so it's still relevant. I did some honing and stropping last night, and today was my first good shave with something that I honed myself. It's still not buttery Coticule-smooth, but extremely rewarding.

Thanked: 485Wednesday
First, thanks for all the comments of support yesterday; they made me feel much better.
This morning I awoke to the sound of that bloody bird that keeps singing beautiful songs outside my bedroom window, seemingly thinking I want to wake at dawn. He annoys the [insert expletive] out of me but it’s hard to get annoyed when he’s so earnest about the whole performance. Reminds me of the Thomas Hardy poem ‘The Darkling Thrush’ (of course the poem is written about the opposite end of the day but it reminds me nevertheless). The last two verses are:
At once a voice arose among
The bleak twigs overhead
In a full-hearted evensong
Of joy illimited;
An aged thrush, frail, gaunt, and small,
In blast-beruffled plume,
Had chosen thus to fling his soul
Upon the growing gloom.
So little cause for carolings
Of such ecstatic sound
Was written on terrestrial things
Afar or nigh around,
That I could think there trembled through
His happy good-night air
Some blessed Hope, whereof he knew
And I was unaware.
I love the steel of this W&B. I’m not sure what it is, but it’s smooth as silk. Not a BBS shave like yesterday, but quite acceptable for the Man About Town that I am. I'm seriously considering sending three of my four razors on a summer holiday to a Kindly Uncle Honemiester, who will whip them into sharp shiny shape, and send them back all sparkly and eager and new.
It’s Bailey’s fourth birthday on the morrow, so no post tomorrow as I’ll be spending the evening (which is when I post my posts) with him, my daughter and the rest of the family.
Oh, by the way, I’m afraid I’ve turned into one of those creepy old men who SMOTHER themselves in aftershave. I lay the blame squarely at the feet of Dominica Bay Rum and Pinaud Clubman, and I wash my hands of the blame like Pilot. I’m using WAY too much of it, but it’s just so, so nice...
My wife says the Bay Rum makes me smell like I’ve been baking apple pies...
