Thanked: 485Thursday
(Guys, the photography here is getting really good, I feel like commenting on every photo, you guys REALLY should be in advertising, selling poster sized photos to 'The Shaver Shop' and the like...)
Used the Schulze Wiener Schaber (Vienna Scraper) this morning. Sometimes I think this is a fiddly little razor, but it’s great for ATG under the neck and chin. I used ‘Sukin’ facial moisturiser as a pre-shave cream with the Arko shave stick. I rubbed the soaked (but only just wet - not holding very much water at all) brush on the stick rather than the stick on my face. I’m not sure it produced a better lather. I did face-lather to allow a good frothy lather to be formed, but not as much as I do when I rub the shave stick on my face and just face-lather. I used the bowl to build a nice cream. However, I think the ingredients (Avocado juice, Rose Hip oil, Aloe, Jojoba oil, wheat germ oil, Tangerine peel oil, Mandarine Orange oil, Burdock extract, Lavender oil, etc) made the cream dissipate on my face. I think the oil essentially act as a surfactant to decrease the surface tension on the bubbles in the cream. That’s why (IMHO) oil based pre-shave applications are a ‘bad’ idea. Proraso pre-shave doesn’t actually list anything as an oil, though at first I thought Eucolyptol must surely be an oil. Though Wikipedia says this about it (my emphasis):
In 1870, F.S. Cloez identified and ascribed the name eucalyptol to the dominant portion of Eucalyptus globulus oil. Eucalyptus oil, the generic collective name for oils from the Eucalyptus genus, should not be confused with the chemical compound eucalyptol.
Not really sure if that means it’s an oil or not. Regardless, Proraso pre-shave cream clearly does NOT act as a surfactant on the cream.
And regardless of all of THAT gumph (which I'm sure no one will actually read) it was a nice and pleasant shave.
Autumn's not far away, the poplar tree in the paddock out the back is starting to yellow already...Time to get some Velvia 50 slide film for the Rolleicord...

Congrats on your daughter's aka "The Bean's " first birthday. I have a picture of my daughters on their first birthday that looks very similar. For me that was 22 years ago.
Anyway, it is folks like you that make this place what it is. Thanks for the great photo and thanks for being here!!!“Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.”
