Special Occasion Shave! This was my smoothest ever and possibly closest straight shave to date.

    Thursday April 19th, 2012.

Prep: Hot water and Brommer's soap.

    Cream: Trumper's Sandalwood

Brush: Custom Deer Antler Handle Pure Badger

    Razor: 6/8" Hayne 3/4 Hollow

    Astringent: Thayer's Super Hazel

    AS: Ogallala Bay Rum Sandalwood.

Prop: S&W Model 640 357 Mag Snubbie with Speer Lawman 130 HPs. I've put a million miles on this baby!

I received this razor in the mail yesterday morning from flea-bay. It was badly in need of a good honing and due to the somewhat funky toe I was hesitant. I was showing it off to my buddy MJHammer who was loaning me various razors to try out and left it there while I ran some errands.

When I stopped back by to pick up the loaners MJ had pulled the scales, buffed, cleaned and polished them, buffed the blade AND put a fantastic edge on this razor. I kid you not! When I tried it this morning it was the smoothest straight shave I've experienced to date.

I think MJHammer is a budding hone-meister and should be kept in mind should any of you need a touch up or a full scale bevel set/rehone.

    Thanks Mike! What a guy!

    John

Thanks, guys, for all the kind words of welcome. It's going to take a few days to get used to this SOTD, so there won't be all the comments you are used to seeing at this stage. But I'll get there!

    Good evening friends!

    Shave prep: Face wash
    Brush: Omega boar
    Soap: Mitchell's Wool Fat
    Scuttle: Robert Becker extra large
Razor: Mystery razor, 5/8 half hollow
    Strop: nun2sharp's hanging leather strop
After Shave Splash: Vetiver Rose home made splash
Notes: My second shave today this, exactly the same as the first one. Exept the first one happened very early in the morning, in a hurry, and really was not that great. I had stubble again before I left work so I made an evening shave as well. Remind me not to do the early morning shaves again, I really don't enjoy them much. This one was very nice though, perfect BBS. I did pay for the second shave, the splash stung more than it has in a very long time coming on. Still, feeling nice and clean. Oh, they closed my photo editor so I'm playing around with a new one. I think I like it.
