What are the stabilisers like? I have on older razor, and Oz told me it was just a little worn from a lot of honing and the corner of the heel needed to be taken off a bit, as the stabilisers were stopping me from honing that area properly. When i took the heel of a bit (on the edge of a Norton 4/8) I could fix it up just fine. Of course, don't take my word for it; I've only been honing for a year, and someone who knows would need to see a photo of the heel, but it's just a thought...If Oz hadn't have told me that I would never have been able to get the job done!

Nice decoration, Bela - I just love Opinels and use them quite often as EDC folders

    Thursday

"Day had broken cold and gray, exceedingly cold and gray…":

The first few words of the Jack London story ‘To Build a Fire’. I like listening to the audio book of this on cold nights in bed, and also when I go camping in Winter. Of course, where I go camping and the cold I experience is a walk in the park compared to what you guys on the top part of the planet experience, but I still like the story. Why am I telling you this? Because it’s about 20 hours until I go on holidays for two weeks’, and hopefully in those two weeks go to Deep Creek National park for a few days. I love that place. This time of the year it’ll be pretty much empty. 46Km squared of rugged coastal bushland. Heaven, even in the middle of Winter.

In preparation, apart from listening to Jack London I listened to Eddie Vedder’s ‘Into the Wild’ soundtrack. Unfortunately, only a few kilometres from home this morning I came across two dead Koalas on the road. Dead animals on the road upset me. A lot. I actually had a tear in my eye as I listened to and sang along with ‘Society’ from the soundtrack. I also love that song. And, actually, I don’t give two hoots, Society, if you'll be lonely without me. I know, I'm a big girly girl, but I'm a bit pissed off about the destruction I see and hear about.

I should mention something that’s shaving related I suppose, tsk. I tried Moonbeam’s idea of commencing with an ATG pass, and I must say (sorry Moonbeam) it wasn’t the best. A small amount of irritation ensued, as did a stubborn outpost of hairs. I’m sorry to say that in my experience it was not of benefit.

Rest in peace poor dead Koalas, we are stupid, stupid people who are wrecking nature, and we should be more careful when driving through your land.

Manaslu M-55 | Rover | MW Marakesh | Lucido | Chanel Antaeus (vintage)

WOW! Now that I've figured out this MW soap, I'm really liking it a lot. I went with a slightly wetter brush to start. The lather was much better hydrated and whipped up into a great lather. I had enough for three passes with lather averaging about 1/4-1/2 inch deep each time. I still need to dial it in just a touch as I got it just on the wet side, but this stuff performs once you do get a stable lather. I recently rehoned the Manaslu (just a full nagura progression touch up) and it was sharp and smooth. I am sporting a CBS, and I am proud to admit it!

Carl, enjoy your holiday and try not to get eaten by a koala or some other wild, rabid creature out there in the bushland!

Thank you, Sir. There's actually nothing in Australia that can hurt you; apart from snakes and spiders, and the world's most poisonous ant (it lives where I'm going).

    Koalas are very gentle people.

You've got like Cougars and bears, oh my!

    Top photo, too.
    What's a CBS again?

Thanks, Carl. I'm slowly trying to figure out this new camera...

CBS = Catfish Belly Smooth. A phrase coined by a dearly departed member...
