Preparation: Warm Shower
Pre-shave: Castle Forbes
Strop: DIY Paddle @ ~30
Razor: Thiers Issard 6/8 Evidé Sonnant
Brush: Semogue 830
Soap: Madame Scodioli 'Hierophant'
Post: Cold Towel
Balm: Skincado
Cologne: Madame Scodioli 'Step Right Up"
I had a really good shave today. Took my sweet time and did a three pass shave. Twas a silky smooth result. I am really liking the Scodioli shave soap. It has a great scent and face lathers pretty decently, in my experience so far.

Thanked: 88Sunday night
Razor: Weishi 9306
Blade: Derby
Prep: hot water, Barbasol
Brush: VDH Boar
Soap: Bald Frog Arabian Hooka
A/S: witch hazel, Joop Homme
Result: Average at best
I'm going through a blade sampler, and just tried the Derby blades for the first time. I'm not impressed with them in this razor. I needed too many touch up passes to get smooth, and it resulted in a few weepers. This is a DE that you'd have to try to cut yourself with any other time. I think I'm going to skip the rest of them and move on to the next brand.

Thanked: 485Monday
A fine, fine shave with the Schulze Wiener Schaber this morning. I rotate 5 straights and a DE, so generally use each razor not more than once a week. Sometimes I might use one twice and go without a shave on a Saturday or Sunday, which means sometimes one razor gets missed; and I think this one got missed in the rotation last week, so this was the first shave after the 8 or so light laps on the Shapton 16k. The razor was very smooth and very sharp, and the O Melhor cream was excellent.
I wonder if I should write to Mr O Melhor and ask if he’d consider a more natural recipe? Then again, considering I was almost drowning myself in Sodium Laurel Sulphate (SLS) a little while ago (shampoo, body wash, shaving cream, dish washing detergent, hand soap) I don’t think using this cream until it is finished will effect me too much.
I was reading about there being no natural reason for a drop in testosterone levels in older males other than obesity, depression and ‘giving up smoking’ (I’m unsure why ‘giving up’ smoking; maybe I read that wrong?). Anyway, apparently SLS mimics Estrogen, and I was thinking that can’t be a GOOD thing for a guy who wants to keep on shaving (like me) and who is rather short on body hair as it is (like me). I was wondering if maybe the drop in testosterone in older men has something to do with Xenoestrogens (man-made doowoppies that have estrogenic effects) building up in one’s body. From the little bit of reading I’ve done it seems that that is indeed a theory.
Of course, I do realise that there’s no such thing as a fact any more. Rather than sitting here typing on my laptop in little old Mount Torrens, I could actually be a space creature eating planets, politicians might aspire to the Office to do Good things, Google could be worth a lot and the International Monetary System could make some sort of sense for all I know.
MAIN POINTS
- Shave was good
- Razor was sharp
- Cream was good (however, refer to point 4)
- Sodium Laurel Sulphate MAY not be the BEST thing ever made
- I may be a space creature
Razor: Schulze Wiener Schaber | Cream: O Melhor (I shall miss you dearly) | After Shave: Truefitt and Hill Trafalgar

6/24/12--10pm
Same as last night but used srd sandalwood soap.
6th shave with my w&b. All very consistent, without any decline in performance. I'm going to oil it tonight and pick another blade for this week.
