I'm going out on a limb here David, but I'm guessing you'd recommend the Floris?

That web site sounds like The Art Of Manliness; a great site. I'm not sure i agree with the statement in that article that hot water dulls your blade. Interesting read, though, thanks...

    Thanks!

And here is proof of concept. Tonight's shave was a family affair. My three sons played I'm the hot tub behind me as I enjoyed a truly fantastic shave with Geandpa's Electric. BBS on the face and DFS on the neck...more than good enough for family movie night down stairs!

Thank you. I must say my Sunday routine probably needs to shift into some sort of cutting grass mode from reading Leaves of Grass mode pretty much ASAP; the grass is almost as tall as I...

My shaving stand is actually only an English oak side table, cheap mirror from K mart, and a pitcher and wash stand set thing. The wash stand stuff (pitcher, bowl, soap dish, chamber pot) was about 150. I did get some nice white towels too. pyrateknight (I think that's his moniker) has a nice set. I'm going to try and make some shelf brackets somehow, and then take a pane of old glass out of the louvre windows in the shed; sand the edges and make a nice shelf. I also need some candle holders fixed to the wall. I've decided you don't need to buy a shaving stand all in one (though that's probably nicer); you can sort of build around a frame; it doesn't need to be portable...

Might be that hot water dulls the blade of a "dull razor"!

I've been looking on the bay for the porcelain parts so that I could do something similar, but haven't seen anything yet. Where did you get yours?

Hi, from a local antique shop. I really wanted the whole deal, stand, etc, but in fact buying a stand with the hole in it for the basin AND getting a basin to fit is hard anyway. I also don't mind the fact that it sits ON the table, not IN it. There were a few advertised on Gumtree a little while ago; in fact a few in Melbourne; I even considered a road trip to go and get one!
