UM, JUST FOR THE RECORD, IT'S STILL THE 29TH HERE IN HAWAII!!! Oh well...

Location: Pearl Harbor, HAWAII (That's Hawaii/Aleutian time, or Whiskey time zone for military types... UTC -10:00, Hello!)
    Prep: Hot shower
    Brush: Haryali London Silvertip
    Razor: Dovo Inox Ebenholz 5/8"
Soap/Cream: TOBS St. James cream (sample)
    Scuttle/mug: milk-glass bowl
AS: Truefitt & Hill Grafton (sample)
    strop: SRD 2" nylon/black latigo (30x/60x)
    Result: BBS fantastic shave

Man, this is just getting really awesome. Three great shaves this week with no cuts. All of these razors are the result of my latest honing work; all finished on a Shapton 16K. It seems that the honing and the shaving technique are coming together nicely. Sharper razors mean lighter strokes, and I'm getting a DFS with the first WTG pass. BBS with the 2nd ATG pass, and I can go from throat to sideburn in one stroke now on the second pass. When I can pull that off, there's almost no burn at all when I'm done, and the AS can be just about anything. It's good to have the TOBS Jermyn St. sensitive skin AS cream on hand, but it's also nice to know that I'm not limited to it. Great to have this Dovo (my first razor that got strop damaged) back up to this level. Makes me want to spring for a Bismarck now...

Sunday the 30th of December, twenty twelve

    scene setting

The day broke mild and sunny, the birdsong awakened. Up, showered, a cappuccino (possibly; depends on your definition) a walk to the top of Mount Torrens with the hound (walk up - run down) twenty seven thirty four. Pb is 20:51, but that was ten years ago...

On return another shower, then hedge trimming wearing my straw cowboy hat. Hedge trimming with 'traditional' shears is great shoulder exercise...

Then I washed my car, and then the wife's car, and then I took the wife's car for a frivolous spin 'round the country backroads, past cows, and cows' poo, and teddy bears made of round hay bales wishing me a merry time. Down winding roads turning to dirt, feeling all the world like Toad of Toad Hall...

    The Shave

Then, on my return, I shaved. In my room. While listening to 'The Prophet' by Kahlil Gibran.

I chose the J A Hellberg frameback, Madame Scodioli sopa, Lavanda scent.

One of the best single pass shaves I've had (the razor had suffered 20 laps on the Shapton 16k at my hand prior to the shave)

I acquired a coffee machine, and now I'm rather besotted. I think I may have made a macchiato today...

from 'The Prophet' (on children) for if I love anything in this world, I love my children, for they are from me, like I am from God.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them,
but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.

    Soap: SRD Vanilla Bourbon
    Razor: http://straightrazorpalace.com/custo...ile-razor.html 7/8

This was my first shave with this razor.
I honed it last night, finishing with my new Norton 8K.
Having never shaved off a Norton 8K, and this being the first shave with this razor, I dont have much reference to judge my honing job, but the edge felt good.
I'll take it to the Naniwa 12K and probably the Chrome Ox after that, but for an 8K edge, I'm really happy with tonights shave.

    Prep - None
    Strop - 3 inch bridle leather/hard felt
Brush - SOC 2 band badger
Razor - Vintage Boker "King Cutter"
Soap - Vitos Red+TBS Maca Root with 6 drops glycerine and 1 drop Lanolin
    Scuttle - Robert Becker
Post - Alum block followed with Thayers witch hazel

Turns out they are called King Cutters for a reason, they give close comfortable shaves. Both my vintage Bokers seem to reliably deliver excellent shaves. Add to that great warm lather and brush, what more could you want on a cold morning. Hope your shave is as good or better. Have a good day.
