Thanked: 43This is my very first submission to these threads. Not sure what took me so long. Just finished honing this FR on my new vintage Nakayama so what better reason do I need to submit my first post here.

Have a very safe and fun New Year celebration my friends, and all the best for the next trip around the sun!
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Location: Pearl Harbor, HAWAII
Prep: Hot shower
Brush: Haryali London Silvertip
Razor: Case Red Imp
Soap/Cream: Truefitt & Hill Rose (sample)
Scuttle/mug: milk-glass bowl
AS: Kyoku Razor Repair Balm (sample)
strop: SRD 2" nylon/black latigo (30x/60x)
Result: DFS
First shave with my first resto. Again, the Red Imp belonged to my wife's grandfather who was a barber from about '52 to '60, and I got it for Christmas in rough, rusted shape. A lot of work on the 220 grit to bring back an edge, and today it shaved for the first time in somewhere between 14 years and half a century. The spine wear indicates it was used to it's full service life, so it's maybe something of a stretch to bring this one out of retirement. I may continue to use it occasionally and keep working with it, but I don't think I will use it in any regular rotation. At least it's in preservable shape and capable of a decent shave now. It leaves some rough areas in the hollows of the neck, but considering how bad it was and how much life is left in the blade, it did pretty well.
Tried the T&H rose shaving cream sample today and decided it's not my scent! This Kyoku balm thankfully wipes out any scent from the cream and is crazy thick, too. It works well, but I had to wipe off the excess with a hot towel. It tingles in kind of a weird way, like it's got an anaesthetic in it or something. Their website says to give it a 60-day trial with a "better-than-money-back" guarantee (you get to keep it), so I don't really know what this single sample is supposed to really accomplish other than make sure you don't just hate it outright.

Thanked: 485Monday
No shave today. I spent the day with my older son again; rock climbing. We've been spending a lot of time together lately, and I really appreciate the fact that he wants to. I know I didn't want to be hanging 'round my father when I was 22...
Anyway, I just thought I'd post a happy new year message. Of course it's only 16:47 here in Mount Torrens, but I thought I'd get in early!
It's been a great year talking to you all!Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

I'm sending the year away in style with only top-shelf products. The suds were compliments of Jabonman's Vetiver Haiti and the skin scraper was courtesy of our own CelticCrusader, Jamie, who restored this beautiful Iron Duke Solingen blade. I am BBS and waiting with open arms for the new year to begin!

Soap: L'Occitane Cade
Razors: Long Life 11/16, Simmon's Barber's Pet 5/8

I'm trying to get to know my new hones. These 2 razors were touched up on the Norton 8K and then on the Naniwa 12K.
The Barber's pet really benefited from the touch-up, It's the best edge I've had on it.
the Long Life still needs a little work.
Have a safe and Happy New Year fellas.

Thanked: 3228Pre - None
Strop - 3 inch bridle leather/hard felt
Brush - Semogue 1350 boar
Soap - Arko in bowl+Old Spice cream with 6 drops glycerine and 1 drop lanolin
Scuttle - Robert Becker
Razor - Wheatley Brothers, Wheat Sheaf Works, Hollow Ground
Post - Alum block followed by Thayers witch hazel.
This razor throws me every time I use it, for a full hollow it is silent. Silent or not it does the job. If I wasn't curious about what other brushes were like I could be well content with the 1350 boar as my only brush. Taken all together, a very good shave. It is still early here but I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year full of more shaving delights. Have a good one.
