Lynn, I tried a bunch of DEs looking for the right one. I've settled on the EJ Chatsworth which is a merkur classic head. The longer handle just seems to provide the correct angle and weight distribution I prefer. Combined with a Gillette Swede I get consistent BBS. Plus, the merkur head is lower profile than any TTO Gillette and lets me shave under my big nose better.
It has been 40 years since I last used an injector, so I'll not comment on them.

My main rotation is '39 usa tech base plate + head with new cooncatbob gnurled handle. sometimes I trade it out to use a slim adjustable or 55 diplomat. mostly I stick with my frankentech.

If I went back to DE razor shaving,my favorite razor would be not a DE,but the Schick Adjustable Injector Razor. The first razor I started out with.2nd choice would be a Gillette slim adjustable.Man I could go thru the whole list.I pretty much love them all, from Eversharp, Gillette,Wilkinson Classic,Persona injector,Pal adj. injector,MERKUR,ETC.The other day I was in a hurry and used my Gillette Super and boy!!, what a shave.I think I'm going to break out all my Oldies and mix it up!!! I will still stick with str8s too!!

Thanked: 5Hi
Hi
I really enjoy DE shaving and have tried quite a few razors and blades.
My favourites are the Murker 38 barbers pole, the 39c Slant Barbers pole and now the Feather DE. They all give superb shaves if used with a TESCO blade or a Feather blade. I genuinely get BBS on my face, and I mean silky smooth.
regards

My favorite DE razor is the Merkur 38C (i.e., long handled HD). It is a great weight and gives a great shave. My favorite blades are the Swedish Gillettes but the Feather blades are beginning to catch up.

1952 gillette superspeed is number one with wilkinsonsword, swedish gillette, or feather blades. #2 is Merkur HD with swords or feateher. The absolute last and not for me is the Gillette adjustable not sure which model bit it definitely is not for me.
Blades make a huge difference. I have even tride to use DE blade sharpeners to see if one can make blades better. Not much luck yet but I need to try to put some paste on the strop of the sharpener to see what happens.

I haven't yet got a Straight, I am still in my DE worl. I do love my Merkur Futur, expecially loaded with a Gillette 7 O'Clock PermaSharp. Nothing else even comes close, for me...

When not shaving with the straight, I like to use a GEM 1912 with a Ted Pella blade. I have just ordered a Progress 500 (modified by Eric, therefore a Mergress) and will have it next week. Let's see how I'll like that one.

I have half a dozen (not counting a Lady Gillette bought for my better half), and they're all older than me and made by Gillette. The stars are an Aristocrat Junior and a 50s style flare tip Rocket - I wouldn't want to choose between them. The former is more aggressive, heavier, and belonged to my father, the latter shaves very smoothly and has to be the most reliable razor I've got if I need a close shave in a hurry. My Fatboy and Slim are tied in 3rd place.
