Thanked: 6Well, to my knowledge, shavettes were a relatively recent instrument that came about when people started to have concerns about the hygenic quality of barber razors. I'm figuring there isn't many "vintage" disposable straights out there.
I may be wrong though, and would love to have someone bring forth some evidence to prove so, as I would be interested in more information on "Vintage" Shavettes.
You could look for a Vintage Weck Sextoblade or I heard DublDuck made a good disposable blade razor as well (DublDuck Hair Shaper). Keep your eyes open and let us know what you find!

The blades are a bit more, but they also tend to last longer than DE blades, so it can be pretty much a wash. 50 cents for a DE blade that lasts for 5 shaves is 10 cents/shave. $1 per blade that lasts 10 shaves (which many get w/ some practice) is also 10 cents/shave.

I have seen pictures of a shavette from 1850. They took replaceable blades that were like the blade of a straight. The early SEs used blades that were like a chunk out of the middle of a straight. You honed and stropped them like a straight. Some frame back straights had removable blades. So yes, antiques exist, but I don't think they compare to a modern shavette. Might as well just get a good straight and shave with that.
As for the expense of the blades for the Feather AC razors, the real cost depends on how many quality shaves you get from each blade. The Pro blade sells for around $20 for 20 blades. If you get 10 shaves per blade, thats about 10 cents per shave. Some shavers get a lot more than 10 and some less. I have not found an inexpensive DE blade that gives me a good shave. For me a good DE blade give 3 good shaves. The these DE blades can be had for about 40 cents per blade. If I pushed it to 4 shaves per blade, I would break even with the AC blade.
Sometimes inexpensive is not as cheap as it seems. It's your face. You have to decide what a good shave is worth. The tale is doon, and God save al the rowte!
