I started off with a very cheap shavette that I put feather blades into. It was just to dip my toe before I bought a "proper" straight razor.
However after a few weeks shaving with new straight razor I have found myself going back more and more to my shavette.
I find it a much more consistent shave, which is probably to do with my poor stropping of my straight.
I am considering making the switch back to shavette permanent but I will definitely need to upgrade my razor. I want one with the extra long blades as that is the one thing I prefer my straight over my shavette in.
From what I've read on the forum am I to take it a feather shavette would suit me best?

I have 2. 1 given to me by my uncle and 1 Duck for the collection. I got a case of DD blades and have yet to try either one of them. You guys almost make me think I should :<0).

Well we talked you into a D/E a little while back if I remember correctly.
Was that razor stand ceramic in the end?
You have everything to hand pups why not give it a try.

I am using a Italian shavette ( i live in Italy) the shavette is a Vanta RA 112 . It works with a half DE blade. Its main characteristic is to cover the angles of the blade. Is stainless steel made, 40 gr weight, well balanced. I use it everyday for a 3 passes shave with a Astra SP blade. It gaves to me Perfect shave without irritations or cuts..

I am big fan of shavettes. Have Feather AC DX, Weck Sextoblade, Hess Ezy Shave, Vanta Lama Intera (RA111) and some Turkish half-blade push type shavette. All of devices are great shavers but Feather AC DX with Super Pro inside is absolutely unbeatable choice!.

For hair shaper shavettes such as Weck i would recommend Kismet blades. Sharpest and Smoothest!

Just stumbled into this thread. I did start with a Parker shavette four years ago, it was very helpful to get the hang of using a straight. I like all three options. Lately I've had to use a DE because of time constraints from a sometimes hectic schedule. I gave my Parker to a friend and he uses it all the time now. I might consider getting a fancier shavette, it's a good alternative for these days because of the no strop factor.

Yes, but with a shavette you can get the great shave of the straight without all issues with honing and stropping. Many prefer the shavette because it's a practical and simple solution especially if you aren't into all the acquisition disorders and just want a good shave.

If in had found the Feather razor a few years back I might not be doing this straight thing,, I love my razors, but I can get my Feather and a pro blade and get as good a shave, but then again I can get just as good with my DE ,, tc

I started with a Dove shavette less than a year ago and get a great shave with it. I still have it in my rotation of 7 blades I use on a regular bases. It isn't the prettiest blade in the shave Den, Buy it is functional and a great travel razor.

Just started a few weeks ago to shave with a pretty cheap shavette with merkur platinum steel blades.

I was passing from a gilette 5 blades fusion blah blah blah too expensive shave that got me irritated as hell.

Weirdly, I got the twist only one or two shaves after. Only made myself a few nicks and slight cuts from the corners of the blade when I went to fast. but no irritation or close to none and a hell of a precise and close shave. Also spared me a lot of ingrown hairs.

As many people I would love straight, but the time and learning curve for sharpening a str8 have pulled me back from making this choice.

I have a very sensitive skin with goblin like beard (hard as hell), anyone could convince me to switch to str8 or confort me in continuing with shavette even though it seems to be not that popular among str8 users?

Just ordered a set of various branded blades from fendrian to see how they affect the experience but for now i'm still pretty impressed.

I am a big fan of my dovo shavette. I bought it for travelling and use it frequently. There's nothing wrong with using one. People on here still use DE razors frequently. Use this opportunity to explore some soaps etc. Also, search for members in your area. All you need for a straight is the blade and strop. It's discourged to start out shaving and honing at the same time. I'm sure there are plenty members that don't hone their blades. Just a part of the hobby some of us enjoy.

Bottom line, continue if you want or buy a straight. You'll have plenty of help. Just be sure to read up on it and the classifieds have good deals.
