Thread: Sponge in the sink for wiping blade

I saw a vid where the guy had a spong in his sink and cleaned the blade on it. My sink is small and deep and can't use a normal sponge. I happened to see a sponge in the painting section of my hardware store. Cost just under 3 bucks.

works great. I love seeing the cut hair as i wipe it off.

I use a sponge on the edge of the sink, sometimes a folded towel as well. The trick is learning how to lay the used lather onto the sponge such that the blade comes off clean, and you don't use up all the sponge.

But i don't like running water while i shave, heck my well ain't _that_ deep.

Risky. I like Lynn's way. A towel on top of the sink. Wipe blade after each pass. Less chance to hit faucet and chip blade

Yes - that's what I do...also, if you need to put the blade down, having the towel there is a safe, secure place to put it, a "ding free" environment!

In the old days barbers would take a folded towel and either put it on your shoulder or his and wipe the blade on that.

I liked the idea of a sponge too but not in the sink. I did not care to dirty anymore towels and thought rinsing a sponge out and leaving it to dry was easier. This is the set up I use on the sink counter top. Works just fine.

I'm one of the 'dim' shavers that has chipped a razor on the faucet.
It hasn't completely cured me of passing the SR under running water.
When I'm 'smart' and careful, I use either a sponge or towel. SWMBO picked up some cheap hand towels at Wally-World for $2 a piece.
I have no excuse other than laziness for passing the razor under running water.
I'm working hard on changing that BAD habit.

A bundle of decent quality white hand towels at Costco will set you back less than the cost of a professional honing. Now why would anyone risk chipping/breaking a blade dipping it in the sink?

I have a stack under the counter that last me a week +. Wipe the lather, dry the razor, wipe out my scuttle, wipe up the counter top and dry the sink and faucet when done in the bathroom. Deposit in the laundry.

To help your mission quest, I found the soap dish thingy at the Sally Ann and a multi pack of sponges at the Dollar Store. My friends call me cheap but in a tone of awe of course.
