Thanked: 23I am kind of confused of why people are worried about chipping a razor on the faucet. Are you confident enough to put a screaming sharp razor all over your face and neck(jugular) but not confident enough not to mash it into a big metal faucet? For me one of the aspects of straight shaving that I enjoy is having to pay attention and not just going through the motions mindlessly. Any input?

Thanked: 3225Your confusion will end when and if it does happen to you personally. There was just a thread posted by a member asking about the ding on the toe of his razor the he inflicted on it. Not on the faucet but on the bottom of the sink. These things do happen and you can try to avoid them or not. Each to their own.

I lay a folded towel out with a paper towel across it and wipe my blades on a dry surface, peper towel just keeps the towel from getting nasty. As a barber we were trained to wipe on a dry terry towel.

Thanked: 0I'm with you on this one...if you are paying attention this shouldn't happen. I often clink the spine side on either the porcelain or the faucet, but never the edge. The only 'ding' on my edge was from dropping the razor off the counter (not paying attention). I've not been doing this that long and I'm sure I will eventually catch the edge--habit may then change or more than likely just curse myself while I'm honing out the damage.

Don't understand. You don't just use that soap for the other side of your face??

Thanked: 8I put four pieces of toilet paper next to the sink (one per pass + one for a final clean up ).
Wipe on the paper then throw away once done.
I touch wood haven't dinged a blade since doing this & don't gunk up the sink/plumbing.

i use a sponge on the side of the sink to wipe the blade - works well, and no need to waste paper products on wiping he blade, and no facecloth or flannel full of whiskers and lather to rinse out. I bought a five pack of el-cheapo sponges at safeway for 3 bux....

What great ideas! Bumped my razor too many times rinsing in sink. Guess I mistakenly thought I had to wash the soap off with water before drying. Think I will start with sponge to clean off and then towel dry. I try not to make too much extra laundry for my wife...with three kids we have quite enough already.
