I have 6 razors shave ready and 5 or so waiting for the stones. I hone one, shave 3 or 4 times in a week then bring it back to the hones to improve it or slap some oil on it and move to the next one. Once I am satisfied with those I have, I will take one or two and see how long a honing lasts for me. Although restores just seem to crop up here and there. I only truely want 3 more razors and maybe a couple customs, waaaay down the road.

Currently I own 6 razors only 5 shave ready at this point in time, still have the final one to test shave with in a couple days. Since I love collecting and hoarding I imagine this number will grow. I would love to have a custom or two eventually

Thanked: 0General information requested
I am just getting started and have just bought my first straight razor....it hasn't even arrived yet. Since you seem to know a lot about straight razors, I need some advice...
-how and where do you find straight razors between $20-30?
-is ebay a good place to get razors....what do you look for in an ebay advertisement?
-what would you say are your most favorite inexpensive razors?
Thanks for reading this....I hope to hear from you.....deanweber ([email protected])

Thanked: 5I have 5 in rotation. I have a few more that need cleanup and hone. I plan on getting to 14 total.
The first SR I bought was brand new from AOS. I joined SRP and learned it was not really shave ready, but saw a mentor who taught me some things, and now it is, along with a couple more.
I got lucky and bought a couple of "lot of razors" on ebay. I now have a collection started. One in each was a shavette. Not interested. May trade or sell. The others are real SR, all need a light restore, which so far has meant a polish and a hone. Dremel works great. I have experience with a Dremel, use low speed, etc. I have polished up 4 more SR and honed them, they all are great shavers.
My current 5 are:
AOS/Dovo
Beau Brummel wedge
Clauss
George Wostenholm & Son
Joseph Rodgers
One of the "lot of razors" collection came with a 7 day leather pack. It needed a little TLC, and Mink Oil improved it a lot. That one is brown, and I bought a brand new black one from SRD. If I fill both 7 day packs with SR, I'll have a total of 14 in rotation. I believe taking out the 2 shavettes, I'm at 13. One is a shorty, which I may trade for a regular as well. But I plan on getting to 14 in rotation.
I don't see me getting to more than 14, in rotation or in collection. But that could change at any time!

I have six, only because I wanted to try different types. I use one for 30-40 shaves, and when it gets irritating, I move to the next one and refresh the blade and it goes to the back of the queue.

Im upto seven as of yesterday. All are vintage except my new Ralf Aust.
From top left
Henckels 50 6/8, newest to me
Boker Edelweiss 5/8
W&B 7/8 wedge
Ralf Aust 5/8
Genco Master Cutler 5/8
W&B 4/8 hollow
Wacker High Class 5/8
RA was honed by Lynn and 4/8 W&B by Glen so those ones will always shave great. They are also my benchmark when honing. The others I honed and have shaved very well considering my honing experience.

Thanked: 135I have 5 straights in my rotation. I shave with each for about a week and then on to the next one.
I don't need any more razors but I'm starting to think a lot about getting a custom made blade.
Then I'll be done. Really .
