Rod speaks the truth. There is more than one thread about someone who got "confidence". The results were always bad.
There is a "Cut of the Day" thread for when you get that confidence:

Thanked: 2Wow... Note to self... Don't EVER try to catch a falling razor. Run. Just run like its the plague(or missing digits)
And that confidence thing makes total sense. I feel a little ahead of the curve since I've been using a DE for most of my shaving life. I'll try not to let it get to my head. I think scrolling through a few pages of that cut of the day thread helped... Buhhhhhhhhhhh.......

Depends on the razor for me. My body is so beat up now 1 finger more or less may not matter depending which razor it is. I'd sacrifice one to save my great grandpappy's sheffield.

Good job and welcome to straights! Go slow, re-lather if the lather dries and becomes tacky, use short strokes to begin with, keep the blade angle low and the pressure light. And get a good stretch.
Cheers, Steve

Thanked: 2Got my second shave it today! Got better at the chin. I think I may need to get the edge professionally honed. It was an eBay "shave ready" razor and even around 100 bucks I can tell its not the best. I did strop on my balsa and leather strops before hand

Thanked: 55The two more likely ways to cut myself are using a slicing motion (a real no no) and using a square tip blade and not being careful around the nose or neck area (anywhere with curves).
The slicing motion is usually when getting too confident and moving too fast on the cheeks.
Although I have and shave with some square tipped blades most of mine are either round tipped or have some curve to them.Last edited by gcbryan; 12-27-2016 at 08:51 PM.

Thanked: 20Congrats! Lynn has some good advice on progressively shaving a little more real estate on the face with the straight razor each day as one is starting out. I have his DVD, but I'm sure you can find one of Lynn's videos on YouTube as well.
