A really good tip for learning to shave the chin is to grab a tennis ball or a baseball and practice shaving the roundness of the ball but obviously not touching it. The motion is similar to shaving the chin and will help build the tactile ability to take on the roundness of the chin. Very similar motion. And as already said, light pressure and shorter strokes at first.

    Good luck.

And that confidence thing makes total sense. I feel a little ahead of the curve since I've been using a DE for most of my shaving life. I'll try not to let it get to my head. I think scrolling through a few pages of that cut of the day thread helped... Buhhhhhhhhhhh.......
Ya don't let that get you,, I spent 44 years with a DE, and I got over confident with th SR, have a nice little scar to prove it. Tc

Well... I done it. I cut myself. Isn't bad though but still. Second time in 9 years, 7 of those using a DE.

Shave 6. Got home from traveling, and there was an extra hollow razor waiting for me so I decided to gives it a go. And let me say, it is deffinetley honed much better than my full hollow. Third pass atg the was no stinging on my neck like there was with the full hollow. And this one the blade is actually on axis with the scales, where as the full hollow the blade hits the left scale about an inch from the tip (any way to possibly straighten that?)

I also decided to do 5 passes for extra practice. 2 wtg, 2 atg and one xtg.

I am finding myself getting more proficient at this, but maybe getting a little too confident. I catch myself doing a half slicing motion 😲 and half scything motion. The ear cut was just me not really knowing how to hold the blade using my right hand, on the right side of my face, going against the grain(up really) I kinda go backhand but find myself getting uneven pressure along the blade(hence the tip of my round point gouging me)

All in all I feel I'm getting the general hang of it

The cutting edge is hitting the scales? That can definitely damage the edge. Depending on the material, gentle heat can allow you to bend the scales a bit, and then it will be set once they cool off. I'd make sure it isn't something that might crack under gentle pressure or be damaged by the heat.

Cuts get us all in the beginning and even after. That won't leave a scar so no real worries.

And I second what Ken said. I have a razor that hits the edge and messed up the cutting edge. Post a picture of the razor and I'm sure someone can help you figure out if it can be straightened out

I'm not sure if you can see the exact point of contact, but I hope this is what you meant. The scales feel like pretty cheap plastic

Goddammit... Shave 7. I usually shave at night when I can take my time. Had to shave in the morning before work and I was probably a little rushed and overconfident. Nicked my left cheek. About the same size as the ear one from last shave... Also not as close of a shave. Yesterday was close and comfortable, but now I'm back to socially acceptable

The nicks happen, but if you're in a hurry be happy it was only a nick.
I and others here have found out, if you're short on time a SR shave isn't the way to go.
This type of shave is a luxury and should be given the time to enjoy it
