Thanked: 31I come right to the base of mine on the first pass and then shave around it. Sometimes it's just a hair by hair thing, but once I got it figured out it didn't slow me down.

About 4 months into DE shaving, I went to a dermatologist and had a few moles removed. I'd never gotten a close enough shave in my whole life for them to bother me prior to learning to shave properly with a DE.
Now that I've switched to straights, I'm even more happy I had it done then. I recommend it. Quick, nearly painless, and not very expensive if there's only a few. Now I just do my stroke, without having to hassle with avoiding moles. Having smooth skin, uninterrupted by either stubble or moles, just matters more to me now than it did before I started this. My 2 cents.

I have a tiny mole located about 1/2 inch below the right corner of my mouth and yes I have to be careful. I've sliced it too many times in the past, first with the mach3, then a shavette and now with a straight.
I have to slow down when I get there and shave around it. Then I make a single pass over it VERY careful and I'm done!

Expense, maybe? I don't know for sure and am just guessing here, but I've heard that dermatologists are VERY expensive. Although in this economy, you can no doubt find a deal. A mole deal! Mo' betta mole deal, yepper!
Question:
does anyone know if there's any truth to what I've always heard, that shaving over a mole can cause it to grow and metastize and possibly become malignantly cancerous?
Funny:
Y'all remember Larry the Cable Guy's bit on the Blue Collar Comedy about moles? It went something like this (bear in mind Larry is a low-rent, white-trash redneck-looking guy in a "wife-beater"--a plaid long-sleeved shirt with the sleeves torn off.)
"My sister, she got the moles real bad all over her face. She's always callin' me up and cryin' about all her moles.
Then she went down to the Catholic church and got saved, so we call her "Holy Moley."
Then she married this Meskin ('Mexican') fella, so we started callin' her "Guaca-moley."

I've got 2 on my face I'm considering getting removed, purely because of the pain in shaving. I've resisted to this point because I refuse to remove it for purely cosmetic reasons...dunno, living in LA, I just don't want to be that guy, I guess.
I've had one removed on my back surgically, which was no sweat. Then there was the one time I tried to remove the one on my forehead with a chainlink fence...but that's another story
...ah to be young and drunk.

Good to know...
It's good to know that I wasnt the only one with a hair up my butt about these kids of things. I am kinda moley myself...moley??? izzat right? Anyway, I have home-remedied 3 of them so far on my face. 2 on my cheek and 1 right below the corner of my mouth. The one on my chin was a mach 3 accident when I was about 17, bled for days, but no long term effects or scarring. The 2 on my cheek however were removed on account of a "small chip" in my razor after it was returned by my brother...these ones did not turn out so well. They also bled for days but are very bumpy and tender now, and I catch them almost everytime I shave. Thanks bro!!
And remember, practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect.

I think it really depends on the mole. I have one about half an inch from the right corner of my mouth, but its very flat and gradual as far as moles go, so it usually does not cause a problem. I do nick it some of the time, but usually I can shave right over it. However, if the mole is more prominent it is probably worth getting removed because if you don't end up chopping it completely off yourself, then you will nick it every time.
