I feel like i am taking my time and its 20 to 30 min. I am still real new and even on days where I am learning new passes it is still only about 30 for 3 or so passes. I have done a couple quick shaves in the morning about 10 to 15 but not to great so I opt to shave in the evening when I have more time.

I've only had one shave, it was my first time using a straight and using a self-made lather, and I took about 50 minutes to do. , if I can half that in coming months I'll be happy.

It takes me about 20 minutes to sh*t, shower, and shave in the morning. The shave part is under 10 minutes. I would love to really extend it out to 30-40 minutes but I am way too ADHD to focus that long.

Dude, you aren't supposed to do all 3 at the same time!

8 mins if I"m in a tearing hurry. There is usually blood. 15 to get a decent shave & any where between 40 & an hour if I'm really enjoying it & doing a BBS & no claret job. The sound of whiskers being pinged off is all the soundtrack needed.

PS Any guesses how long a one handed shave will take?

I too love my NPR in the morning. It usually takes me 40 minutes from stropping to putting my razor back in the stand because I'm still a noob. However, I don't really shave in the morning so I put on a Rat Pack CD or the Mad Men soundtrack instead of NPR, and I usually shave at night or in the middle of the day when I have some time between classes. So I make sure I have plenty of time. Also, shaving is really my only alone time during the day because I live with my GF, so it can take up to an hour and a half if I really want some quiet time . Ususally, however, it takes me about 40 minutes, because I love the ritual and experience, and I always go for BBS because I budget in that much time.

I can knock out a decent shave in under 10 minutes, but on average I spend about 15 minute shaving.

Maybe I'm a bad example. I am definitely still on the learning curve, and I prefer to shave in the evening so I can take my time. But I have been taking well over an hour on every shave. I lather up, strop about 40 on linen and 50-60 on leather, then re-lather, then shave WTG. If I don't strop before the next pass it is very uncomfortable or won't shave well, so i lather again while stropping about another 30-40 on leather, then re-lather (it dries out while I'm stropping) and make a shave pass XTG. Then one more repeat of the lather/strop/re-lather/shave this time ATG. It ends up BBS and lasts a solid day and a half, and I enjoy it. I have a pretty coarse beard (the hairs are large diameter, but only average density except for my chin/moustache area. If I also add in the time to put some after shave balm onto my face, this whole routine is not something I can foresee as reasonable in the morning. When I need to be clean shaven in the morning for work or a meeting, or when travelling - I still stick with trusty Gillette DE.

This is a good thread, I have been wondering if I am excessively slow and now I realize that I am!

I don't think 40 - 50 minutes is excessively slow for a new straight shaver. That's about where I was when I started. My shave just gradually got faster without my trying to make it so until I was shocked to discover how short they had become. Enjoy your shaves no matter how long they take.

I don't even try shaving with a straight unless I know I have no real time constraints. It usually takes me around 30-35 minutes or so, but I hate to feel rushed. So if I have any kind of deadline I shave with the DE.

This usually means shaving with a straight at night and with the DE if I shave in the morning.
