Thanked: 1262How long does it take to shave?
I'm not sure how familiar everyone is with the videos Mantic posts on youtube, but they saved me when I was new to Wet Shaving/DE shaving.
He posted a new video yesterday on the 10 minute DE shave. I was just curious how long it takes most to shave with their straight. I havent timed myself, but between prep/stropping/cleanup i'm guessing i clock in around 30 minutes.
Just curious if i will be able to shave much off that time with more experience.

When I first started with the straight it took so long that the lather would dry up on my face before I got through the first pass. Now I can probably do two passes in 15 minutes but usually take 20 or more. I always make sure to allow enough time for a leisurely and enjoyable shave.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

IF I went with the... lather up, strop, relather, shave 3-4 passes, finish, cleanup. it could very easily run longer than a half hour.. in a rush...15 minutes or so..

Thanked: 13245I take my time, so prep and such takes forever, because I enjoy it.... so I voted 30-40 minutes....
Now at the gym, or if I am in a hurry and don't do the whole prep and Uberlather routine 10 minutes at the most and done....

20-30 mins, but getting better. I've been having issues with my soap/cream combo lately not having a good consistency and causing the blade to bounce.

I voted 10-20 minutes (just the shaving, not the showering, stropping, etc.)
Just because I can shave in 5 minutes doesn't mean I enjoy it.
Shaving is for a moment of relaxation at the end of the day. There is no point in rushing it imoTil shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Thanked: 6I can do it in less then 10 minutes now, but why would you? Why destroy the time of pleasure? So usally if I do 3 passes I guess it takes from 10-20 minutes.
I like to work it slow.

I am still pretty new so I don't think I am nearly as fast as the experienced members here, but I still get through quick enough. If we are talking about everything including preshave, lather, stropping, I would say I am around 15-17 mins. The actual shave takes me just under 10 if you dont include pre or post. However, this is only my daily routine. When I have more time, like going on a date or going out on friday or saturday night, I usually take around 20-25 minutes because I do a third pass, and spend more time letting the lather soak in, using a hot towel, that kinda thing.

I assume we're talking about the whole process, not just the actual shave which takes maybe ten minutes. The preperation included would make more like 15-20 minutes. I look forward to it everyday. That's my time....

Well Slart, on average I would say about 15 min. Some days I go slower and take my time with a few extra passes, and some days I rip out a shave in about 5-7 min total. Depends on my mood at the time.
I do like a slow, thorough shave though. For several months I used to think shaving was secondary to restoring and honing, but I am really getting a kick out of actually using all my razors I honed up (instead of just buying obsessively and restoring them).
Also, and I have probably said this before, I really like your user name.
