    Mike,

try to let it heal for at least a week and shave around it. Use some neosporin.

    Which blade was the culprit?

    Mike,

Remember when people ask about it tell them it was a dueling scar. Makes you sound very manly...lol. I did that twice and it was a trip.

As for the soap I love Colleens soaps also Mama Bears are great too. I liked the bay rum from Pinaud though haven't used it in a bit though, my wife loves the West Indian Lime from Crantree & Evelyn so that has become my standard.

lol Max , the culprit was the beauty you made for me, I dont want to use anything else . I just cant believe how sharp you got that razor. With very little stropping that razor feels like it glides on ice when I use it.

I have to say that two of the best things I have aquired in my short time of straight shaving is a razor from Max and soaps from Colleen. These are two people I will deal with untill they retire.

Jeremy , Yes from day one I have been lucky without even a nick. I just stayed focused , took my time and have had great shaves. When I finally sliced myself I almost didnt know what to do, I kept shaving but the red lather started to get to me. I felt like the boxer who gets hit and knocked out for the first time, I felt it cut and thought oh oh ..... I didnt move and thought ok nothing happened that just felt weird, but then came the red lather.

    Hey mike

how has that new latigo been working for you...i just got mine and i dont have anything to compare it to and it feels pretty slick when stropping...does the draw increase with use...because if not i cant see myself wanting horse...i would feel too uncontrolled...

    you thoughts?

Eric , the latigo is great it has gotten more draw. In fact a little to much for me, Im going to have to get some Neets foot oil that TM suggested. I havent put anything on it since I got it and the only reason Im even considering the oil is the lessen the draw.

Mike, Congrats on your first wound. Sorry that it took soooo long
I still think that lather should incorporate a styptic type ingredient, or all soaps and lathers should be RED!

I think I can safely say I speak for the majority of the European mainland in sending the warmest welcome to the club of straight razor nickers. May your membership be long and fruitful, just make sure to not attend club meetings on a daily basis!

On the serious side: You had a nice and cautious approach when starting out, my first shave with my "good" straight (a Steve Dempster (The Invisible Edge) bocote-scaled Wapi, looks very nice) left me with a few red stripes.

And you put me on a new soap mission.... getting a couple of those Colleen soaps. Grrrrr, well, fortunately the paycheck came in.

Maybe an idea to lather from an alum block?

Hillie, you are going to love Colleens soaps. I started out with the Bay/Sweet orange and it is great . Tommorow I am going to order at least 6 more soaps with the custom wooden bowls. Then I will have at least half her shave soap line, I want to eventually have the entire line .
