Thanked: 22No, it never has. I find though that I am less of a purist than I used to be. Once upon a time the only use I had for a safety razor was for travel.
Nowadays I'm more inclined to trot out the Fatboy or an Injector just because I enjoy using them.

Still in love with straights
I have only been doing this for 6 months and it has made shaving fun again. You feel connected, honing stropping, lather making, and the sound. What a rush.
Thank you can I have another.....

It's about 2 years for me and each time I shave with a straight it's an enjoyable experience. It's funny you brought up this topic now though; I've shaved daily (save for most Saturdays) and except for a handful of times, exclusively with a straight for the past few years.
Recently, there have been a few occasions like someone else mentioned where I had to be clean shaven or passably so FAST. I can not shave quickly with a straight. We're talking less than five minutes. So, I was forced to dig out my electric that gives a 3 minute quick charge. I left soap on my face and stretched skin, techniques I had never used with the electric. The shave was still not in comparison to the closeness of my straight shaves, but in five minutes I was done and gone.
I like that it takes me time (start from soaking brush to finish being clean up, post strop and leaving the bathroom approx 30 min) to shave with a straight because it IS very relaxing. Occasionally, depending on being in a hurry, I don't like that it takes me time to shave with a straight.
Yeah yeah, "get up earlier". That means I'd have to go to bed earlier.

Thanked: 15I look forward to a shave every morning and only revert to my fat boy on the two days a week that I must rise early and get to the office by 7:30. As soon as I completely retire, I look forward to using my straight razor rotation every day.

I think it depends on the shave. Typically I look forward to it, but there are those days when I need to be shaved yesterday and I zip through it in the shower, with the only thought being not to slice anything important off. I've been doing this for 2 years or so now.

Oddly, shaving is one of the things that kept me sane and reminded me of home on a recent deployment. In a part of the world where running water was a true luxury (much less, HOT running water) taking the time to enjoy a bit of peace each day was a treat.
Yes, I did get some odd looks at 1st from the Marines, but they just thought it was "badass" after a while!
After I got home, shaving was a sense of normalcy that seemed to help get me back into a "normal" routine. That may define "mundane" to some, but to me it has become a bit of my personality that is private and for me alone.

Thanked: 1195Doesn't get mundane for me. I wish the skin on my face wasn't so damn sensitive so I could shave every day instead of every other day!
I used to enjoy growing various beards and forms of facial hair. Now I don't want to as it would leave me with less surface area to shave. I did have to make a concession for the wife and grow my sideburns back - just not nearly as long as they used to be.

I don't always look forward to it. Am I the only one? I only shave maybe once or twice a week but if it were more than that, I think that the physical act of shaving would in fact be mundane to me.
On a shaving day I might feel like yes, it is in fact a chore that I need to shave and I don't feel excited to do it. When I start the shave though, I never HATE it. In fact, I'll often be very pleased about it afterwards because it happened to be a great shave.
Regardless of whether or not I enjoy the act of shaving, I love so many other things about straights that I feel the excitement of the 'hobby' as a whole will never wear off.

Mundane? never. Some days I'm less focused due to time constraints or distractions, but after four years I still get some very profound shave experiences, especially after a long day chasing after Little Man.
