Thanked: 234Pretty much, I do two passes and a touch up on my chin. I don't think that's an excessive amount of passes or time, and I can generally get a bbs shave.
If I don't, though, I am also comfortable enough to just let it go and tomorrow is another day.
Basically, my routine allows for the possibility, but it's not always achieved.

Always go for BBS each and every time, I know my Dovo Inox is capable of it and I expect the best.

I, also, go for BBS every time, and 99.9% of the time I get it. I do two passes; WTG & ATG.
In the beginning, I would get razor burn pretty bad and lived on Witch Hazel and Trumper's SkinFood all day long. No more! Why (you say)? Sharper razors, better shaving technique, better prep + much better stropping technique!!

first wtg only shave
First wtg shave today, Was good, almost bss. Still a little rough under the jaw and chin other wise very nice. Dovo 1/2 hollow, this razor does give me a little less irritation than my full hollows.
Tommorrow will use the full hollow and see how it goes

Thanked: 278I used to go for BBS every time, but not now. I do as many passes as necessary to get what I consider to be a good shave. It can be 1 to 4 passes, depending on the blade and other factors.
One reason is that I've learned that after I finish shaving, the closeness improves as if by magic. Must be to do with how the hairs & skin change as they dry. Why bother doing an extra pass when you know that tiny amount of stubble will retract anyway?
Also I think limiting the number of passes is the only way to increase skill. If you just keep doing passes until you are BBS, you lose the incentive and feedback necessary for learning.

day two
Ok Day one went ok but I did get a shadow at around 1pm. The 1/2 hollow dovo worked well including the jaw and chin, but not great.
Day 2 with the full hollow dovo. The cheeks and neck were good, but the chin and jaw were not even close to what I could get away with, so I did sneak a small ATG pass. Chin and jaw are now good, a little better than the first pass with the half hollow.
Will give a update tommorrow

Not sure that I go into the shave I'm aiming at a BBS. It's just that when I get started I end up doing a BBS shave because I'm always feeling here and there and correcting anything that went wrong.

I'm still new at straight shaving but I always strive for the bbs shave, and these days I usually get pretty close or achieve it. I now know which sectors of my face need which strokes. One pass north to south then one south to north gets everything above the jaw line. Under the jaw and the hollows beside the neck need some special xtg passes to come smooth, and that's it bbs or close to it. The sharper the razor(another whole topic) the easier the shave. If I get any razor burn I know I held the razor too tight and used too much pressure.
