Default do you go for a bss everytime?

Hello all, I have been doing this for 6 months and very happy. I go for a bss every time and have been getting some small areas of irritation. My question is am I overdoing it? I am doing one wtg, one atg, and two xtg. Getting a baby smooth results, sometimes a weeper. This resolves with some witch hazel, but some occasional bumps.

    I would love some comments

Not me. There are area's that i do, but if i go for bbs round my whole mouth area i'll get ingrowns.
One of the things i love about the straight is that i can get a closer shave without ingrowns than i can with anything else, but not bbs.
Some guys can't see the point if you're not striving for it, but it's not that way for me.

Yes and no. I do 2 passes max with maybe a touch up area and that usually suffices. If I do 3 passes I will have irritation so I don't do 3 passes. I think that my beard is relatively soft with the exception of the chin and an area on either side of my windpipe. So I usually get bbs in the fore mentioned 2 passes but if not then tomorrow is another day. BTW, the better my preparation the better my shave.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Unfortunately, yes (mostly). Bad habit. I go into the shave thinking "just get a presentable shave this time" but it always seems that a little more will do the trick and I often ending up a little raw with a nick or two.

What gets me is that every third or fourth time I get a perfect BBS shave with no blood and only mild burn. I can't help but try and recreate that every time even while I tell myself to go easy!

I don't worry about BBS . I want a close , and irritation free shave . The more I shave , the better I get . I've been shaving with straights for over 2 years , and my shaves are great , but they are still improving . The basic fundamentals of straight shaving , can be learned quickly . But I believe it takes years to truly master the art of straight shaving .

Day to day I just go for a presentable shave and only really go for BBS on special occasions.

Same here. You might try to do better prep or change your technique if there are areas that are constantly getting irritated.

Hardly ever. My entire shave of prep, lather, stropping, shaving, and clean up usually only takes 7 minutes. That's just a slngle WTG pass that lasts me more than 24 hours if needed. That's good enough and all I have time for.
