If i'm shaving for work, as long a no stubble is showing - we're good but when shaving for myself - then BBS is a must. Though, the more I shave the closer it gets. I rushed a shave recently, being late, and wound up within a stone's throw of perfection. Practice makes BBS!

BBS every time, unless I'm in a rush.

shave update
This has been a great post for me to see what other people are doing and just what they find acceptable. I have been getting a very good shave with 2 passes wtg and atg. This is the only 2 passes I do on the neck. I still can get razor burn if I go more or a weeper, interesting is the fact that my left side, I am right handed and use my right hand for the upswing atg pass there, gives me more trouble with razor burn, one would thing that the other side would since you are using your non dominant hand.
I should note that my razor burn has also decrease since I have been using jockey's new lather techinque, with glycerin, soap and a small dap of cream. I also have started to use olive oil vitamin A oil, as a preshave, 75/25. The premade stuff for some reason does not mix well with my soap lather.
Using a 1/2 hollow 1/4 hollow also has help with my tough beard with less irritation.
Thanks all for your interesting responces.

BBS is BS! Im thinking a LOT of new shavers are expecting glass feel shaves as a result of the abuse of the term 'bbs'. It is not shave healthy for any of us. I vote for the banning of the term 'bbs'.
Disclaimer. This statement is possibly influenced by my intake of good Australian fortified wine.

Before I say yes, does BBS mean Baby Bottom Smooth? If it does, than the answer is yes, but good technique and equipment get me there. I am a night time after shower shaver, so I want to look shaved when I wake up. If I was a morning shaver I might do things different. Wife likes the feel of TAS (Tamed Animal Shave) too. Having said that, i don't ever over shave to the point of irritation. That is something for beginers to find out in this life threatening sport.

Well yes, but for me it depends on the razor, my state of mind etc. If I have the time, a couple of passes do the trick. If I don't have the time the a quick once-over and a touch up will do. So, in answer to the question, no, I don't go for BBS every time. Since I started using straights (and acquired the necessary technique etc) I'm more or less there every time though.

Thanked: 363There is a difference in BBS's imho.
I can and do get a BBS every time I shave, unless I specifically shave a single pass and get only a bbs on my cheeks.
However, I find there is a norma BBS which is great and very very smooth, and then there's the ultimate BBS, nick free, wonder shave that ends in that sticky smooth creamy skin feeling.
I find this last type of BBS comes from good planning and quality products, and especially most of all, good correct stropping.
TGQ soaps are usually involved in this type of BBS for me, as is my Josepgh Rodgers.
cheers
