Actually, I promised to not start using a straight razor when I first started wetshaving with a DE. That lasted a whole year until I stumbled across SRP after seeing it mentioned on other forums. Now, I am enamored with the BBS shaves I get

I found this site by bumping into one of Lynn's videos on youtube. I then went from a mild interest to a new hobby.

Read a Wired magazine article touting the cost savings from straight razor shaving. Right! Bought a straight razor for $20 from my collector brother-in-law, found my wife's barbers hone, and went at it. I did OK, but ploddingly. When I found SRP a few weeks later, my progress went on a radically better trajectory!
Any more, my wife teases me that I spend all my time on SRP. I don't think she's worried about me hunting up pix of naked women at all on this Internet thing!

It wasn't for me because I didn't know about it... It WAS however a VERY significant factor in my success at straight razor shaving!

I started with yahoo group .Some of you may remember Lynn is the founder that side too. SRP wasn't at that time.
The truth is i have learned so much and get help; i do appreciate everything.
SRP is In my opinion Greatest Place to be in . I hope every single member enjoys and having fun.

Thanked: 190I started under my own initiative. Then realized I needed help and started looking on line for experienced advice and I was lucky to find SRP which guided me the rest of the way up the learning curve.
Thanks SRP!

Thanked: 2209I started with the Yahoo SRP forum. It was only because of Lynn starting that forum that I was able to learn how to shave with a Str8 and how to hone.
Thanks Lynn!Randolph Tuttle, a SRP Mentor for residents of Minnesota & western Wisconsin

I answered no. I bought my first Dovo & strop before i discovered it.
Whether i'd have continued without SRP & it's members is debatable. Highly unlikely though, i would say. I've learned so much about every aspect, from prep, through the shave, maintenance & restoration. It's been invaluable! Cheers guys.

Thanked: 1903I joined another forum first. I found SRP unwieldy, and the essential information too hard to find. Well, goes with the territory: forums usually fail miserably when it comes to presenting information, as they are meant for discussion, not knowledge transfer.
Which is why I took the opportunity of working on the Wiki. I think it has now become a valuable resource for beginners, courtesy of the fine people who contributed to it: Contribution scores - Straight Razor Place Wiki.
Regards,
Robin
