Thanked: 271I have a 6" x 1" BBW/Coticule combo and the Awaseto that I purchased from Dick. I have no idea what the grit is, just that it gives me an edge that is a little sharper than the coticule. The Awaseto was about 6" x 3" when it came from Dick but I recently had it cut in half because I prefer narrow hones that I can hold in my hand.
I make a slurry on the BBW side with a BBW rubbing stone to set the bevel and then finish on the coticule side with water and a little liquid soap. The soap breaks the surface tension of the water and seems to bring the razor into close contact with the hone. Now, I also finishing on the Awaseto with water and liquid soap. I think adding soap to the water will make any hone perform better.
