Awesome video. Thanks for posting. I wish I had seen the sponge trick a few days ago...

The Awaseto was about 6" x 3" when it came from Dick but I recently had it cut in half because I prefer narrow hones that I can hold in my hand.

I make a slurry on the BBW side with a BBW rubbing stone to set the bevel and then finish on the coticule side with water and a little liquid soap. The soap breaks the surface tension of the water and seems to bring the razor into close contact with the hone. Now, I also finishing on the Awaseto with water and liquid soap. I think adding soap to the water will make any hone perform better.
Have you ever tried the unicot method as mentioned on bart's website, coticule.be? It seems right up your alley! The whole honing routine is done on a coticule from bevel to finish.

Great video, D. Don't know how I missed it. I also shave to the sound of a bell ringing sometimes, but it ain't no great shakes. Give me the medieval bells of Tuscany/Umbria any day!

Oh my god when you go upwards on your upper lip I was seriously scared lol. If I tried that I'd need at least a new upper lip, and maybe a new nose! Haha.

Sponge is definitely a good idea, going to get me one of those.

This video also showed me that I'm still not getting my lather right. I don't know what it is but no matter how much I whip the stuff it still comes out foamy/bubbley, not more like a cream like yours was. I've got to get back to the drawing board I guess.

This sounds like a water issue, I mean too much of it. Try using too little and adding little drops every thirty swirls or so.

Ok will do, thanks. Each time I've tried using less water so far the soap (Tabac) has dried on my face, and even bits of snow flakes flew off. I know that's way too little water, sounds like I just need to keep trying till I find the exact right amount.

Start off dry, then add water as you go, only by little drop amounts. If you want to face lather, apply the soap to your face and if it's too dry spread the brush hairs a little and add some drops from your finger tips and continue to lather as you add moister on your face.

Great video. I really liked the tip about the alum block. Thanks.

When is the video of you shaving someone in your barber's chair coming out?
