Thread: Oh that spike point !!

Most of the razors in my rotation are spikes, and most of them don't bite, but I have a 6/8 Wosty IXL from the mid-1800s that I am more likely than not to slice myself with the point. The blade is about 1/4 inch shorter than my others--perhaps was reground to eliminate a chip in the toe at some point. Maybe that accounts for it. Paradoxically, it's probably my best shaver and one that I really look forward to shaving with.

I've poked my earlobe before, even with a round point. Then, I took the round point, and most of my spikes and just lightly rub the tip of the blade against the hone, 4K usually does it, but 1K will work. Others may not want to do that, but I'm still have sharp edge for getting the mustache whiskers without having the sharp go all the way up.
Are there any differences between Spanish Point and Square Point for the ends of the razor?~~ Vern ~~

Did it again yesterday
I know I should probably have the toe blunted, but something in me resists taking that step, even though it's not permanent. Not wanting to give in? Stubborn? What's that they say about repeating the same action over and over again and expecting a different result?"If you ever get the pipes in good chune, your troubles have just begun."--Seamus Ennis

Probably the one advantage to learning w/ a spike point, as I did, is that you become VERY cognizant of where the blade is at all times.

For me, it seems a lot of the razors I have bought are spike or square points. But, I have nicked my earlobe with the sharp end of a round point....before I got smart enough to make sure the ends are also not sharp.~~ Vern ~~
