Thread: Evening Shave Convert

Nearly always shave at night even before I started using a straight razor. I also prefer shaving at night when I have work the next morning. In saying that as I work shift work and it changes every week sometimes my evening shave is 2pm before getting ready to leave for work. Most nights it would normally be between 8 & 10.

Thanked: 30My favorite time to shave is late morning, when the little one is down for a nap, but I only get to do that on Saturdays or Sundays. My weekday shaves happen at night, after the little one has gone to bed, usually around 7:30. I never shave after a shower because I tend to cut myself. I guess the water puffs my skin or something, I don't know. I do not shave before work, because I get up at 5 as it is, and have an hour commute...I pretty much roll out of bed and hit the road. It's a nice way to unwind at the end of the day, provided I get my stuff done around the house before I shave. I've found that if I shave before I've finished whatever I have to do for the night, I rush and irritate my face.

Actually i heard on the radio that it's better to shave in the evening because in the morning the skin is puffed up slightly so you don't get as close a shave as later in the day.

I've really taken to shaving in evening before going out. Nice long shower and a luxurious shave. No rush to get to work.

I think I'll give this a try. My beard isn't that heavy to begin with so I could probably get through the day without a morning shave (touching up with my DE; I still haven't gotten the basics of the str8 down yet). Sounds like a great way to end the day.

Update
It has been 3 1/2 weeks now since I started the evening shave, and I'm having to say that I have really come to appreciate that end of the day ritual. It is very relaxing - I never would have thought.
I think somebody here said that your beard grow more slowly while your are sleeping, and I can believe it. I have found that my 8:30pm shave lasts till about 4:00pm the next day. I mean a really presentable shave, not just passable.
