Thanked: 1195Really Obie? With your Assyrian bear pelt of a beard?
All joking aside, I don't consider my beard to be really heavy but one pass simply won't do. I'm not sure what it is - direction of growth, rate of growth, etc - but a one pass shave will leave some noticeable stubble and I'll have a 5 o'clock shadow again by noon. Not to say I wouldn't do it if I could get away with it. For those who can I say good on ya!

I have been doing BBS shaves 7 days a week for several months. Based on this thread I've tried one pass shaves for the past couple mornings. I have probably an average beard for growth rate and thickness (but definitely turning a little silver ) They feel pretty smooth when I'm done, but I get pretty prickly by dinner time compared to my previous regimen. It is good to know that if I need to I can do a shave in ~5 minutes. Thanks for bringing this up.

Ryan, I know what you mean about my Assyrian beard. Lynn tells me I have tree trunks for a beard.
Yes, the one pass shave can be acceptable for me, especially these days when my beard is mostly white. I have done it only just get by. If I were meeting a Hollywood starlet dying for the lead role in my screenplay, I would do three full passes and then splash on some Truefitt & Hill Spanish Leather.
Note to the famous Hollywood starlet dying to commission a screenplay from me: I hope you're reading this.

Thanked: 30I generally do 1 wtg, 1 atg & another run over the chin mustache area. this has me on a m-w-f shaving routine. 1 pass works but is more noticeable on the second day. probably the biggest reason for multi-pass is the massage and smelling up the lather for a longer time.
I may just have to try out a daily 1 pass routine for a week and see how it does.

To me, shaving with one pass is like eating just one potato chip. I can't stop at just one, (regardless of how close a shave I get).

Thanked: 443One pass gets me ready for work. I usually shave at night, so my face isn't still recovering when I hit the job site. I'm still waiting for my life to need smoother shaves.

Thanked: 1185Generally my standard is two passes N-S then S-N. If this doesn't get me at or very close to BBS, then the razor needs work. But recently I've been dabbling with the one pass shave and given a decent edge on the razor, one pass seems more than adequate for work or a lazy weekend shave. It's not an extremely close shave and one pass will likely never be my standard shave but for a simple, comfortable but presentable shave it's OK.
