Watch your blade angle. From that photo it looks like you have a lot of air between the spin and skin but it could be the photo. Getting the blade angle is key to a good shave. Too much angle and you scrape instead of shave, to shallow and you just glide over without cutting. A good rule of thumb is twice the spine thickness in angle but some blades work better at higher or lower angles. You just have to experiment and find what works best with which blade.

Finally someone criticizing my shave! I was waiting for someone to see something that I was doing wrong! Yes, I do need to watch my angle. Because that was my first shave I was unsure of what I was doing. I was more worried about cutting myself then how good my shave was. The second shave went much better and I hope tonight's shave does also. I am going to do this and do it the right way hopefully with minimal scars...lol

Default Wow, I can't believe I did that.

Key word there is "minimal" scars. I'm sure everyone will have at least a few, I've been working hard on mine.

This is true. My learning scar came when I got cocky and thought this is easier than i thought. Then the toe of my Dubl Duck decided to bite. Scar is on my left cheekbone. Its not super noticeable but it tells its story well. If you wanna see what it looked like fresh it is on "cut of the day".

It's here and it's perfect! I can't wait to use it! I am so glad I decided to buy from whipped dog. It's a 4/8 but I don't know much else about it. I will look it up. It also came with a really cool box.

It is a pretty cool looking old razor...but we can't seem to find out anything about it. Doesn't really say much on the blade other than "Classic", which returns pretty much everything on a search, and the other thing is "A.Witze Germany".

Already thinking about a second blade myself and think I might try a surprise one from whipped dog too!

I see you got a round point. Good choice.

The best way to avoid cuts is to try and separate the lather from the skin. If you go too shallow you're just spreading it around. If you go just high enough you're slicing between the skin and lather and taking the lather off.
Good luck with the legs. When my wide was pregnant with our youngest she let me shave her let's when she could no longer reach them. Not so much these days because I butchered her ankles one time.

I actually didn't pick anything on my razor, Larry did. However I am glad he picked a round point other wise I would have cut my leg to pieces trying to get the right angle.

Lathering is probably the hardest thing about shaving this way. I can't seem to get it just right. It's either to dry or to wet. I am sure I will master it in time but for now I will have hubby help me. He will add water if I need it and whip up more when I ask. My later never seems to last a whole leg so I end up needing to get more. I do shave in sections as suggested but that seems a bit of a challange because I always end up missing spots. Next I want to work on lathering in the shower to shave my underarms. No, I won't use my straight. I'm not even close to ready for that!

Ankles are not as frustrating for me. I got lucky and don't have a whole lot of hair there so I don't have to worry about chopping them to bits.
